Guest LUTRAM Posted June 6, 2010 Report Posted June 6, 2010 Noticed beebplayer had vanished from Market as FROYO will support flash and hence no more need for the beebplayer, Well until we get FROYO here is a quick QR CODE link for beebplayer http://chart.apis.google.com/chart?cht=qr&...roid.beebplayer

Guest samac92 Posted June 6, 2010 Report Posted June 6, 2010 is that really the reason?? i have froyo with flash player and iPlayer (any internet video in fact) hardly works at all. you can't get the video to play full screen, the framerate is about 3fps and the audio lags a few seconds behind the picture. also adobe says you'll get up to 3 hours with only flash running. i know its only beta, but who knows when flash will be actually usable?

Guest dreamdealer Posted June 6, 2010 Report Posted June 6, 2010 may be of interest http://davejohnston.posterous.com/ is it me or by reading that, gives you a sense of 2.2 coming on our devices very soon, close to the rumour, of the 23rd been flying about.
Guest pampyre Posted June 7, 2010 Report Posted June 7, 2010 is it me or by reading that, gives you a sense of 2.2 coming on our devices very soon, close to the rumour, of the 23rd been flying about. I could be missing something but, no, it doesn't even seem to mention the desire. Imo it's possible but highly unlikely the 23rd is an accurate date. I'd also add that, on this 'test' Froyo I'm currently running, with flash beta, there's just no way you're going to watch iplayer and be happy with the result unless stuff changes quite dramatically. Unfortunately for me, beebplayer nor the iplayer site/beta flash work well enough to use currently :)
Guest ChikkenSoop Posted June 7, 2010 Report Posted June 7, 2010 (edited) Unfortunately having installed Froyo and played with iPlayer, I want beebplayer back! Even with the iPlayer streams at their lowest and my phone overclocked to 1.2ghz its still more of a slideshow than television. Obviously a Desire specific Froyo will be better than a quickly hacked together rom but I don't hold out much hope unless the BBC changes their streams. Saying that though I am looking forward to whatever tvcatchup.com are rumoured to be releasing before the World Cup :) Edited June 7, 2010 by ChikkenSoop
Guest battletank Posted June 7, 2010 Report Posted June 7, 2010 I read the following on a LinkedIn contact's profile (name removed for fear of getting him/her in trouble): Software Engineer BBC Public Company; BBC; Broadcast Media industry September 2008 – Present (1 year 10 months) Responsible for the presentation layer architecture of the BBC's new personalised mobile homepage and the technical management of externally commissioned projects. Also the design and development of the BBC’s prototype iPlayer application for Android, providing video browsing, download, playback and management.
Guest IIIIkoolaidIIII Posted June 7, 2010 Report Posted June 7, 2010 Aweseom, couldn't find a backup of it. Missed having it.
Guest HearThatVoiceAgain Posted June 8, 2010 Report Posted June 8, 2010 may be of interest http://davejohnston.posterous.com/ See the Third (at time of posting) item down. beebPlayer discontinued I'm sorry to announce that I have removed beebPlayer from the Android Market and ceased all further development of this application.
Guest DaBeeeenster Posted June 8, 2010 Report Posted June 8, 2010 Sorry for being dim, but why can't the Desire use the iPhone version of the site? Does the desire not play h264?
Guest pampyre Posted June 17, 2010 Report Posted June 17, 2010 Could just be me (flashed a new rom and checking sites etc) but it seems BBC iPlayer site now defaults to the (new/beta) mobile version for Android/Desire? Doesn't seem to work though (I get a neverending 'loading icon'). Anyone else getting this or have it working? I have the latest flash beta (for Froyo).
Guest ChikkenSoop Posted June 18, 2010 Report Posted June 18, 2010 Sorry for being dim, but why can't the Desire use the iPhone version of the site? Does the desire not play h264? Having downloaded some of the iphone format content and trying to play them, you get video but no audio so I'm guessing they use a strange form of aac audio that the desire doesnt support out of the box.
Guest acolwill Posted June 19, 2010 Report Posted June 19, 2010 Try myPlayer. It has an utterly s*** UI and finding stuff to watch is a pain in the arse, but it's able to stream current content and even play live TV.
