OTA upgrade method (without wifi problems) for debranded phones

Guys,

I've just put a post over on XDA developers which I also wanted to share.

I've just upgrade two desires. Both were debranded, network unlock (originally on orange) running the generic 1.15 rom. The first phone was had the 1.21 OTA applied an it ended up with the wifi broken which was then fixed by applying the full RUU update. On the second however, I put the goldcard originally used to debrand the phone in to the desire BEFORE doing the OTA and this time, the OTA reported a 'update successful' message and there was no wifi issues at all.

I think because the debranded phones still have their original CID checks, the OTA upgrade does most of the upgrade, but then fails when doing the kernal if you don't have the goldcard inserted during the upgrade.

The only thing i can't confirm is that if you do the method above, on a network locked, debranded phone, you may still get the sim-unlock code request which some people have commented on (although this only seems to happen if you do the RUU upgrade on orange based phones)

Hope the info is of use to someone out there.

Cheers.
