Omnia i900 Newbie questions for WM version and ROMs

Hi guys and Omnia Users,

Im a new Omnia User and member of this forum.

I bought my phone in Singapore

Currently I have this versions:

Windows Mobile 6.1

PDA: i900DXHH3/DZHH3

PHONE: i900DXHH3

I hope you can help me answer the follwong questions.

1. Can i upgrade my WinMobile version from 6.1 to 6.5? if possible how can i update it?

2. What is the latest ROM that I can use to have the latest version or having a Custom ROM?

3. Is SPB Mobile Shell different from ROMs? And how do I install it?

first just make an official upgrade of firmware from samsung mobile website, if u dont have the link just follow this one:

http://www.samsungmobile.com/support/omnia.index.jsp

then choose singapore from the list, and the OS or ur pc used to make the upgrade.

to ur second question. the latest official rom from samsung is DZIA5, the same one i told u to download in the link above. but keep in mind that this is win mo 6.1.

omnia will never get an official win mo 6.5 update, therefeore if u are interested in trying out 6.5.3 then u will have to go with custom roms.

i can recommend some nicklashgard custom roms, they are visually nice and rather stable. currently i have OCK's 6.5.3 M2D classic running, this one also seems to be stable and fast.

before u jump to any custom roms, it is advised ur get used to the phone first, get the official DZIA5 firmware first, upgrade the omnia then read as much as u can from some threads here like for example how to flash the omnia etc... there are several threads relating on how to flash the omnia on XP, Vista or Win 7. read them according to what system u have running on ur pc.

upgrade to custom roms at your own responsibility. many members have "broken" their omnia by not following the instructions correctly or just by having a bad day and bad luck.
