Guest Paul Posted June 8, 2010 Report Posted June 8, 2010 Interested to know people's purchase decisions... :) If you don't fit into any of the options above, let me know and i'll add the choice. P
Guest courtlandre Posted June 8, 2010 Report Posted June 8, 2010 Adding options for 1) data contract 2) 30 day simplicity contract 3) 12 mo simplicity would be great.
Guest memnoch89 Posted June 8, 2010 Report Posted June 8, 2010 I will buy a sim free black Streack, when it will be possible for me (France)
Guest knightpants Posted June 8, 2010 Report Posted June 8, 2010 was getting one anyway, perfect for what i need, don't do much calling, only server stuff and text.
Guest twadger Posted June 8, 2010 Report Posted June 8, 2010 I'll be buying when it gets 2.2. Either from o2, Dell or elsewhere :)
Guest miker71 Posted August 17, 2010 Report Posted August 17, 2010 I tanked up on beer and scorched my credit card at Dell's UK website. Been bitten seriously by this Android bug, and beginning to realise I value a large screen that can still fit in a trouser pocket (currently using a Samsung Galaxy S which has a 4" screen - I do a lot of RSS feed reading etc. I'm also not convinced Samsung will fix the GPS bug to my satisfaction). I know stock Streak is 1.6 which seems quite quaint, but that niggle aside (and let's face it I'll be able to get to 2.1 quite quickly by the looks of it), it seems like a solid device with positive reviews. Anyone know if it has any multitouch crossover bug like the Nexus One (which would limit gaming potential ...) ?
Guest marra2 Posted August 17, 2010 Report Posted August 17, 2010 Got mine pay and go from o2 and put my contact sim in it
Guest Amdathlonuk Posted August 17, 2010 Report Posted August 17, 2010 I sold my O2 locked Streak and ordered a SIM FREE which arrived yesterday :D However, they (Dell) delivered another one today! I've only paid for one?!?!.....
Guest kibcom Posted August 17, 2010 Report Posted August 17, 2010 I got my Streak free from O2 on a 24 month contract including all calls and unlimited data for £35 per month. Bargain! Like 95% of buyers of the Streak I have no idea what 'root available' means. It is totally irrelevant to me. My Streak does what I want. End of. Who gives a stuff about 'root' ?
Guest mzsigler Posted August 18, 2010 Report Posted August 18, 2010 (edited) I bought an "Unlocked" US streak, in very large part because it was rooted and you had one. I also have a Nexus One, and I bought Captivate first, was disgusted with Samsung's butchering of Android and the slow rate of development, and decided to sell it and get a better supported device. It's still no Nexus One, but Dell didn't mess with the OS near as much as Samsung did, and as such, it works much better. I'm still keeping my N1 until another dev phone comes out, but the Streak isn't half bad. Edited August 18, 2010 by mzsigler
Guest vinokirk Posted August 18, 2010 Report Posted August 18, 2010 I bought an O2 locked one of ebay and used a Rebel Sim card with it. Maybe you could have an option: I bought a locked O2 one off ebay and a RebelSimcard So we can see how many users are using it on other networks other than O2
Guest tomqman Posted August 18, 2010 Report Posted August 18, 2010 (edited) I bought an O2 locked one of ebay and used a Rebel Sim card with it. Maybe you could have an option: I bought a locked O2 one off ebay and a RebelSimcard So we can see how many users are using it on other networks other than O2 +1 and also this proves a point that i keep telling people o2 are not the best network and are very far from. if they was so good why do people go out there way to get a sim free streak or want a way to use another network. (same thing happened with the iphone) orange & vodaphone have far better 3g coverage imo across the uk and have much better deals. Edited August 18, 2010 by tomqman
Guest burstatron Posted August 18, 2010 Report Posted August 18, 2010 Upgraded to streak on my o2 contract, while I was aware of the mod community (had touch-flo on x1 etc) rooting ability wasn't a factor in the decision. That being said I'm very happy I'm able to root and flash etc to make the device do what I want, not what o2 and dell think I want.

Guest synaptic.flaws Posted August 18, 2010 Report Posted August 18, 2010 Interested to know people's purchase decisions... :D If you don't fit into any of the options above, let me know and i'll add the choice. P I bought a streak because it is just too damn sexy! And because it was offered on a mobile broadband contract so i wouldn't have to use it as a phone.
Guest burstatron Posted August 18, 2010 Report Posted August 18, 2010 Its all about the screen size baby, bigger is better Yeah blatently, but funny enough it was the size that put me off the HD2 :D Streak just seems better, maybe it should be called the "sleek"
Guest Lettre531 Posted August 18, 2010 Report Posted August 18, 2010 Mine is the red version, i bought in the Phone House with a package sfr. I'm waiting for Paul's Custom ROM 2.1 a little moment :D .
Guest miker71 Posted August 20, 2010 Report Posted August 20, 2010 Mine has arrived today! Time for a little play after work, then get busy flashing 2.1 :-) First impressions taking it out of the box: solid with a tiny tiny bit of flex but zero creaking - flex is good for when it's in the pocket - and, it easily fits in my front trouser pocket (mainly due to how thin the device is). I also got the SatNav arm - overpriced I reckon, but seems solid enough. Probably will get the dock in a couple of months before the Streak goes extinct (which is my biggest fear - it is just too big for most people's needs, too big to become insanely popular unless Dell's marketing team spend some serious cash with an agency to compete with Apple's marketing agency - probably not gonna happen!) So, anyway without having turned the Streak on yet I can say it feels comfortable in landscape mode (this surprised me) and using it one-handed in portrait mode might be too much when swyping (which is probably why it's being marketed primarily as tablet - implies two handed use some/all of the time). Anyway, can't wait to finish work and delve in!
Guest popetodd Posted August 20, 2010 Report Posted August 20, 2010 (edited) Got mine to replace my aging HW6945, got the same voice and data deal as I was already paying for and the phone was free so how could I pass that up! Just means I am stuck with O2 for 18 months. No biggie, been with em now for 2 and a half years already anyway. Would have probably paid for it anyway though, this is one cool bit of kit! Guest miker71 Posted August 20, 2010 Report Posted August 20, 2010 nyone know if it has any multitouch crossover bug like the Nexus One (which would limit gaming potential ...) ? There's a youtube vid that confirms that it does NOT have the bug (although tracking does look somewhat delayed)
Guest HOkay Posted August 21, 2010 Report Posted August 21, 2010 Personally the rooting factor did make a difference for me. I was originally thinking about getting a Motorola Milestone, mainly due to the huge success of the Droid. However once I saw how locked down the Milestone was there was no way I was getting one, my girlfriend was exactly the same so they lost at least two sales! As soon as I saw the Streak I thought it could be a winner, the 1.6 was off-putting originally but now I'm using it I really don't have any problems with it, I think Dell did a good job and I prefer it to the vanilla android I've seen on other phones. Of course I do want flash and multitouch (omg emulators will rock!!). I've been on O2 for a while now and actually really quite like them. The customer service is fast, if a little un-specific to your question, but they can usually sort things out quite quickly. The only peeve I have with them at the moment is they are up there with the most expensive of all the operators (was the absolute cheapest when I joined). Fyi, paid £60 for the Streak on a £30/month 24 month contract which is 300 mins, unlimited txts & "unlimited" data (500MB). I thought 500MB of data would limit me severely but it turns out its ample even using the device as a sat nav on frequent occasions. Kk, long post, apologies for that!
