gold card question

I have already rooted my desire using the r1 root method, for this is used a gold card in the root process as instructed in the r1 tutorial at the time and had no problems since.

I know now, that since my device is unbranded, if I want to flash a rom, i can do it straight off the sdcard and not my gold card I am not 100% sure if a gold card is still needed for people with branded desires to flash new roms if someone could clarify this then its a bonus.

Anyway, the reason I am asking this question, is because:

1. My friend has an unrooted unbranded desire and wants me to root it for him.

2. I don't have time to read every post in the rooting thread since its now over 100 posts (I did start then gave up)

3. I never seem to have success with search functions on forums.

So I would appreciate anyone taking there time to answer theses questions:

- Do I still need a gold card to root with even though the desire I am rooting is unbranded?

- If so can i use the gold card I created to root my desire with, or do I have to make a new one

for my friends device?

No and yes. Paul confirmed that when the goldcard img creator went down & I used the one I made for my hero in my friend's desire so it should be fine :).

So once goldcard users root, can they throw away their goldcards or would they need it for something else in future?
