Guest mattgod69 Posted June 9, 2010 Report Posted June 9, 2010 H I have had an HTC Desire for about a month and a half. I have installed some apps, but the work has been working like a dream until yesterday. I now have the random reboots. It boots several times (sometimes getting to the home screen) but mostly not. All i see it the white HTC screen. Eventually it gets back to normal and starts ok. It did the same thing today and i did notice that the unit was quite hot. On both occasions (yesterday and today) i was trying to access the internet, not make a call. I have noticed that i have been getting several text messages from Anonymous (no subject). It you open it in the top right is a icon for a sim card. I think this is possibly an issue with an over the air update that has been applied to the phone. i have read easewhere that others are having similar issues. They cant all be ok for some time and then only playing up in the last week.... what does everyone think? I phoned Orange CS who were useless....... they have not heard of any problems of this nature. I dont believe them. I was going to do a hard reset, but i think now this may not sort the issue.... Anyone got any ideas? Are you getting those texts? I saw one post elsewhere about lots of things running at once possibly causing an issue..... Maybe the Advanced Task Killer is the problem.... read somewhere else this was the case.......?? Cheers. Matt

Try a process of elimination to see which one. Anonymous seems to be a small bug. You reboot the phone and it takes a missing call you had and turns it into a 'text message from anonymous'. Take a look - you'll see the date/time match a missed call perfectly.

Browsing the internet, or anything that requires 3G data, makes the phone crash - and it has only started in the last week. I haven't installed any new apps in the last week, just updated the ones I have already installed. It goes to the HTC and then the Quietly Different screen, and sometimes lets me enter my pin and sometimes doesn't. Eventually it calms down! I also noticed that the back of the phone was quite hot whenever this happened? I'm not sure that it is an app but I think I'm going to recover/hard reset and try again from the start...

Paul I have the same issue completely...... i think it is due to an OTA update to the phone. I am not getting a replacement as Orange ship out recon units if you have had it for over a month. The problem is software related and HTC should be able to fix...... i am going to try and contact them.
Guest mattgod69 Posted June 10, 2010 Report Posted June 10, 2010 UPDATE! I have just called HTC. This is a software issue with the recent update. They are aware of this issue and are working on a fix. Its pointless returning the phone as there is nothing wrong with it. The replacement will be the same. Hope this helps. Just a case of living with it for a few days.

However, it seems odd that we both have the same issue on completely different models starting around the same time.... ....guess I just hold fire then. Shame I just did a hard reset....!

Guest paulhardman Posted June 10, 2010 Report Posted June 10, 2010 (edited) Move along, nothing to see here (mod can delete this if they want!) Edited June 10, 2010 by paulhardman
Guest paulhardman Posted June 10, 2010 Report Posted June 10, 2010 (edited) Isn't that the update to 1.21 though that they have pulled? Edited June 10, 2010 by paulhardman
Guest paulhardman Posted June 10, 2010 Report Posted June 10, 2010 Interesting...... not sure whats going on then..... something has been done over the air to mess things up.....!! So... to make it more interesting... I did a full wipe/restore of my phone this morning. While it was doing the restore from the SD card, it crashed and rebooted probably ten times... I have since reinstalled the apps I actually use :) and so far (and I know I'm probably cursing myself here) I can't recreate the crash situation. I was able to crash it reliably by zooming in quickly on a map, and having just tried that for the last five minutes I have not been able to make it crash! So maybe... just maybe... it was an app....
Guest GeoTrail Posted June 10, 2010 Report Posted June 10, 2010 I got the same problem too. I updated to HBOOT 0.80 and firmware 1.21.405.2 CL174215 last week and the past few days, my phone has restarted it self lots of times. When I check my phone for messages, I just get to the PIN input screen. I've never had this problem before the latest update. So I'm thinking of Froyo-izing my phone :)
