Guest Heziva Posted June 10, 2010 Report Posted June 10, 2010 Hello, Thank you for all your stuff around this wonderfull stuff. I have tried and kind of succeeded to root my Desire using your tutorial. Here is the strange thing : - I've been blocked on the end of the second step with C:\prog\r5-desire-root>step2-windows.bat Desire Root Step 2 Pushing required files to device... error: protocol fault (no status) * daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 * * daemon started successfully * - exec '/system/bin/sh' failed: No such file or directory (2) - Pushing update file to device sdcard - this may take a few minutes... - exec '/system/bin/sh' failed: No such file or directory (2) - 1826 KB/s (126444599 bytes in 67.595s) Now wipe and apply rootedupdate.zip from the recovery image menu. - exec '/system/bin/sh' failed: No such file or directory (2) - Then my phone keeps showing this red triangle icon. So I waited a long time, then I disconnected the battery and the usb connection. I was kind of depressed, so I rebooted my phone and... it was already rooted ! What is the last step ? Wiping and applying rootedupdate.zip ? Should I do something ? The second question is : now i'd like to install your other ROM, with app2sd builted in. * Ensure you have are able to launch the custom recovery image (see 'requirements' above) Ok, I got a kind of rooted Desire * Download the zip file of your choice from the links below (or the online kitchen) and copy to your SD card Yep', that's not too hard. The uploader has my gratitude. * Restart your device in recovery mode Hmmm If my memory is correct, I should start pressing the "back" button to enter in the recovery mode. * PERFORM A NANDROID BACKUP FROM THE MENU What ?! I don't have any option that seems like feeting. Is it from the bug I got upside ? I could use a little help, if you mind * Select the option to apply an update zip, and select the zip file you copied to your memory card ... Thx for all your work, guys, your marvellous ! (and sorry for my bad english...)
Guest MatLomax Posted June 10, 2010 Report Posted June 10, 2010 (edited) Not too sure about the rooting, but it will become obvious if it hasn't worked properly when you flash the modded ROM. To get into recovery mode, you have to go into the recovery screen, without USB plugged in. When the phone with the red triangle comes up, plug in the USB to your computer, and from the same folder as the step2-windows.bat file, instead run recovery-windows.bat. Should it work, it will put your phone into recovery mode, with a green menu on a black background. From there, I believe the 'NAND backup' option is under 'Other' (not strictly necessary, but no reason why not). Once you've done that, you can Flash Zip from SD, and you're done! Should this fail, then you may have to go back through the rooting instructions to make sure you are in fact rooted properly. Edited June 10, 2010 by MatLomax
Guest chaosmarine Posted June 10, 2010 Report Posted June 10, 2010 (edited) wait for more expert friends.... but: you not applied rootupdate.zip : i'm not sure you'r rooted Nandroid backup make "clone" of your's rom in sd. So you can restore it from adb. Recovery is like say MatLomax on the same green menu', there " apply an update .zip" from there you can flash the new rom, that you have put in the sd. Wait and you're done. Edited June 10, 2010 by chaosmarine
Guest Heziva Posted June 10, 2010 Report Posted June 10, 2010 Thank you very much guys. The new version is installing right now. I was definitly root, as I could type "su" in a term emulator without getting this permission denied. The usb tethering was fully operationnal. This was kind of strange, but it workd. I reinstalled some drivers, then the second part worked without thoses wired errors. I don't really know what i've done, but now it works. Thx for the "go to recovery mode" mini guide, i wouldn't have found it by myself. By the way, I formatted my sdcard with a large fat32 partition followed by a smaller ext2 partition. Do I need to do anything else for ap2sd to do it's job ? Like creating a folder or something like that ? Thanks again !
Guest chaosmarine Posted June 10, 2010 Report Posted June 10, 2010 (edited) "I don't really know what i've done, but now it works." Lol .Courageous man, well done. I can't help you for ap2sd.Sorry. cheers Edited June 10, 2010 by chaosmarine
