Question RE: Sense UI & MCRr3 ROM

If I were to make an MCRr3 ROM without Sense what else would I have to remove to get it working? I assume without it the other widgets won't work. Is that right?

Just fancy trying Android without Sense and see how I get on with it

IF you remove sense there are a lot of things (mostly widgets) that will not longer work. IF you just want to try it I think there is a way just to switch.

I rememver that with the MCR v2 I was able to select the UI with the "home" - button. If I had pressed it it asked me what I want to use to go to home (was a bit weired) and you could select to use Sense or Launcher (stock android).

At the moment it seems that this option is gone (but I think it can be reactivated). There was a checkbox "always use this selection". That indicates that it can be unchecked somewhere.

When I baked a ROM 3.1 without Sense, I got no home at all... so, totally useless...

When I bake a ROM with Sense and another Home, LauncherPro for example, I have the choice between both of them.

When I bake a ROM without Sense and with another home, the other home works but, there are lots of Sense/Rosie error messages...

Check/Uncheck Sense UI is a totally useless option in kitchen...

Uncheck = unstable... so useful to let it checked :)

Adding a NonSenseUI ROM this night. Maybe this will help you! Wait at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=628

I like the kitchen and its upload of a 10Mb zip with my own requirements.

Yes i like it too!

But the option with the Launcher dont work! And not everybody has the Money for the kitchen or the knowledge to build a own rom ;-)

Edit: Ehhhhhm!? uncheck=Unstable? Uncheck=useless!!!! Because u have no launcher for launching apps ;-)

But why?

The Sense is very delicious! :)

Before the Desire in my Liquid I don't had the sense.

Now I think is the best thing in my Android.

Is fast and very good to see.

Have you ever tried LauncherPro? I really love it...

Fast, and customizable!

What I dislike in Sense is the "+" button... which is totally useless as it does exactly the same thing that a long click on the desktop...

What I really like in LauncherPro:

  • 4 custom shortcuts... so very useful!
  • 5 icons rows in homescreen (4x5 instead of 4x4, yes I put lots of icons :) )

Yes I also like the launcher pro for his customizable characteristic.

But the widget that offer the sense are not comparable whit any widget in the market.

I think the contact widget and the favorites of the browser are the best.

So I think is better to have a "+" useless than not have the widget i prefer!

:)

I love Sense but I just wanted to try Android without it but as said the HTC widgets are what I love Sense for - the alternatives on the market are nowhere near as good...shame really

think I'll wait for a proper FroYo port and try it then

I understand :) I searched for a long time some other widgets to replace the one I use...

  • Android Agenda Widget
  • I put contacts shortcuts on my homescreen instead of the contact widget
  • Fancy Widget for the clock

But I confess, I didn't use lots of Sense widgets... So, this was an easier step to switch...

if HTC added shortcuts at their launcher instead of the arrow and the so big PHONE button it would be the best UI so far
