Just wondering does anyone know of any apps/mods/suchlike that enables me to unlock my HTC Hero with a pin instead of the kind of lousy pattern unlock system?

just enable your SIM card lock there's your PIN :)

except this will only give protection to phone/sim combo and not the phone itself but i guess you're not trying to keep off thieves rather than sneaky friends :)
