Guest Simon Taylor Posted June 12, 2010 Report Posted June 12, 2010 So ever since I applied the hungarian 2.1 update I have had no camera functionality. When I select the camera app I get a pop-up message: ---------------- Camera Error Cannot connect to camera [OK] ---------------- And once I click OK, the camera app quits. I have a UK T-mobile pulse, only a couple of months old. I never had a problem with 1.5! Has anyone else found this? Or found a fix? I had the problem running stock hungarian 2.1, as well as the FLBmod. Thanks!
Guest Speckles Posted June 12, 2010 Report Posted June 12, 2010 Maybe your device drivers were not updated correctly? Have you tried reinstalling the official 2.1 update?
Guest Simon O Posted June 12, 2010 Report Posted June 12, 2010 Install Hungarian again and don't install the extra CUSTOM_HU update. Try a custom rom again. I have a UK T-Mobile Pulse U8220 phone and camera works fine.

I have a UK T-Mobile Pulse U8220 phone and camera works fine. Thanks fibblesan! I've just tried that, but again no good. One strange thing... when updating to the Hungarian, it hangs at the 'restarting' stage, so I have to remove the battery and reboot. Did yours hang there? I remember seeing talk of two different camera modules somewhere... could this be my problem? Cheers
Guest Speckles Posted June 13, 2010 Report Posted June 13, 2010 Yes, that's normal, mine never restarted when it was supposed to. It was always battery-out time.
Guest zuccster Posted June 13, 2010 Report Posted June 13, 2010 ---------------- Camera Error Cannot connect to camera [OK] ---------------- I had this after selecting the secondary (front) camera in camera settings. It persisted until I rebooted. I guess you've tried this tho...

My 2 year old threw my wifes Pulse on the floor and the camera never worked again. 1.5 used to force close, but 2.1 gives exactly the message you've posted above. If you have the option, restore 1.5 and return the phone as faulty if it doesn't fix it.
Guest ajieboy Posted June 14, 2010 Report Posted June 14, 2010 yeah, same with me. i have Huawei U8230 from Indonesia (not bundled with telco operator), and i have that problem also. almost every time i use Camera apps, the apps Force Close and Cannot Connect Camera (using official cupcake 1.5 AND official t-mobile hungary eclair 2.1-update1) Help!

Guest BigBearMDC Posted June 14, 2010 Report Posted June 14, 2010 You could try to slightly push your camera back into it's housing with two flat screwdrivers. Most cameras in the handsets I disassembled are just layd onto the PCB. But beware, you could also destroy your camera and PCB (mainboard of the phone) if you push it into the housing with too much force. I take no responsibility if you damage your handset. Best regards, BigBear
Guest Simon Taylor Posted June 14, 2010 Report Posted June 14, 2010 (edited) Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I just tried the hu localisation! It fixed the bad icons at the bottom, but caused my 3G to be lost (I use O2). Now, I'm gonna try going back to 1.5 to see what happens. I have done the http://www.huaweidevice.com/community/thre...&orderStr=9 update to allow me to go to 1.5, now downloading the November firmware from T-mobile. Fingers crossed! Edit - I should add hungarian localisation did not fix camera :) Edited June 14, 2010 by Simon Taylor
Guest Simon Taylor Posted June 14, 2010 Report Posted June 14, 2010 OK, latest news, I managed to go back to 1.5, pre November. And the camera was working again! However, a few months ago (before update to 2.1) I noticed that photos were never coming out crisp and focused. In addition, the barcode scanner apps which once worked ok had troubles too. Perhaps I have a camera problem? Attached is an example of a photo of six inches from the screen. actually, doesn't look too bad... BigBear - would your two screwdriver fix help me? To fix the data connection I had to re-insert my T-mobile SIM, boot, get data with T-mob, then put my O2 sim back in!

Guest okochaa Posted June 17, 2010 Report Posted June 17, 2010 Any info on how to fix camera issue ? I installed Android 2.1 downloaded from Hungarian T-mobile, and camera worked fine, even little better . But phone was sometimes little slow, so I decided to install customized_hu , after that performance of the phone was a lot better ( subjective opinion ) but camera isn't working. I install Camera Zoom FX , and with that app camera works, i take photo, save it and when i try to take another photo app FC, and then after a while or reboot same thing happens again. Any idea how to fix camera issue ? Phone works great except that bug... Thnx

This then results in the 'cannot connect to camera error' until I reboot the phone. This doesn't seem to happen using the stock camera app though
Guest IceXcube84 Posted June 18, 2010 Report Posted June 18, 2010 (edited) I have same problem with my Huawei U8220 and i have flashed the T-Mobile Pulse 2.1 Hungarian and FLB custom rom and my camera is not working. Can somebody upload the two stock camera files from app folder? See if that solve the problem. If not i will try to reinstall it from scrath again. EDIT: Nevermind. I did everything from scrath again and now its working. Not sure what i did so it stop to work before. I will be more careful what i change in the filesystem next time. Guest rhen Posted June 18, 2010 Report Posted June 18, 2010 I have a similar issue. My stock camera app works fine, but if I use Camera 360, the app is freez and I have to kill it. After this I cant use the stock camera app till I restart the phone. It gives me the error message posted in the first post. After restart the phone, the camera working again with the stock camera app. I think, If I kill a process what is connected to the camera, it cant release the camera and other apps cant connect to it.
Guest Gonçalo Silva Posted June 18, 2010 Report Posted June 18, 2010 I also have issues with the camera on 2.1, but my problem is than my phone usually reboots after starting the camera app (lasts for a couple of seconds). I have a Huawei U8230 (TMN A1) running Swiss 2.1. What boot rom do you have? have you tried flash boot boot.img from Pulse_OscillationROMR7B ? I have TMN A1 originally with 1.5 and I puted hungarian system it worked after that fix Have you managed to install the Hungarian ROM in U8230?!

Best regards, BigBear Hi All, Well, I've rolled back to 1.5 now, and my camera is working again, but I think its faulty! It doesn't seem to focus properly, and barcode scanning, in any light, works 1 in 20 times! BigBear, would this help me with my focus issue? And could it be that 2.1 is more fussy about the camera? Cheers Si
Guest bindi Posted June 22, 2010 Report Posted June 22, 2010 I am also on 2.1 using hungarian update with FLB ROM - Beta 3 and have this issue. I can actually take 1 or 2 photos either directly through built 'Camera' App or through Vignette but then I get similar error camera can't connect. However it is always fixed after a reboot for another 1-2 photos and then same...It sure must be software issue on 2.1 as on 1.5 or 1.7 MCR camera always worked.

If you don't care about warrany you could disassamble it, and see if there's something wron with the camera. Best regards, BigBear
