Rooting/flashing tutorial request

Now that fake-flash has matured, and ROM Manager seems to have ironed out most of its issues, could someone please outline the process to get from an untouched Desire to one which you can play with new ROMS/install rooted apps with? I'm sure the information is all here in the forums, but it's currently spread across millions of posts over five stickies, so a tutorial might be helpful to some... of course to be updated once we finally get full RW access :)

Or perhaps a FAQ?
