Guest _Bobby Posted June 15, 2010 Report Posted June 15, 2010 I've tried several call recorders, but it's useless. Each one makes a empty (0 kb) file, no matter what file type I chose (3gp.mpeg, amr..). This is pretty stupid since I have had such a nice built in recorder on my Lg Cookie( it's even without OS), but I am unable to do this on my mini pc (android pulse phone). I have the official 2.1 Hungarian update (and the second update was also added). I have already missed the chance to record a very important call(due to this empty file problem). Having the police to give a warrant for the cell operator to release a recording of the call is not a flexible solution. There must be some way I can fix this. Maybe a root? Any other solution? I'll appreciate any kind of advice, since this is a serious situation. Thanks in advance.
Guest _Bobby Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 (edited) It would be very helpful if someone with a rooted pulse try a call recording program like Total Recall or any other and tell me if it works. I'll also need the name of the custom rom. As I previously explained, this is not about spying. Anyone, please... Edited June 16, 2010 by _Bobby
Guest Spook Tooth Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 (edited) It would be very helpful if someone with a rooted pulse try a call recording program like Total Recall or any other and tell me if it works. I'll also need the name of the custom rom. As I previously explained, this is not about spying. Anyone, please... I tried it three times on my rooted Pulse (R7 Oscillation) but Total Recall is completely unreliable. The two times it didn't crash it failed to give the prompt to save the call message and the third, well I'm still waiting for my phone to recover. It may be possible, with some of the apps I'm using (the set CPU type one perhaps) that TR is failing because of an incompatibility issue but after reading some of the comments in the marketplace I think maybe it's just a buggy piece of crap software. I wasted money testing this out, I'm sorry I couldn't give you positive results. Maybe someone else will have a better experience. Calls seem to be recorded to SD card by default (no easy option to change location methinks), perhaps my SD card (class 2) isn't fast enough? My advice with threatening calls is to go to your local police station and talk with a desk clerk there. If it's someone you know (making the threatening calls) they can make a record of the person's name (also look them up on their computer system) and add a note to treat your call as urgent (a TACAU) if you believe there is a danger of physical injury to yourself etc. I'm not a lawyer but wouldn't a recorded call taken without the consent of the other party be seen as inadmissible evidence, akin to the MI5 etc bugging or tapping a phone line? It might help in some ways but for prosecution purposes it likely would not (again, check this as I don't know what the legal status is). Other things to try are putting the phone to external speaker (speakerphone) and using another device to record - you could even tell the other person you are recording the conversation (at the opportune moment perhaps) and in this way, your recorded call would be regarded as evidence in a fully usable legal sense. Hope this helps. If I get any other voice recording app working I'll let you know. My Nokia N95 phone has a call recording feature built in but beeps to let the other caller know their conversation is being recorded (I think that's also a legal requirement). Edit: tried it twice again and still no go, Total Recall just isn't responding. Jesus! It won't even stop. I have to reboot my phone just to kill the process off. Do yourself a favour and find something else, even if you have to pay for it. TR just doesn't respond, I need to reboot again! :) :) :) Edited June 16, 2010 by Spook Tooth
Guest Stevos Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 Yep, contact the police and your phone company. In the case of threatening calls they can block, trace and/or monitor calls. If you do that yourself it may be illegal (depending on your jurisdiction.)
Guest jerryjerry Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 Ultimate Voice Recoder v2.3.4 it can work on my U8220 (ROM1.5 W/O root, HongKong PCCW) download it! Hope to be useful for you.
Guest Jankov Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 (edited) That is the best i could find too. Ultimate Voice Recorder. It can automatically record calls from a list of phones you choose and it has a lot of other options. It works for me. Using FLB-Mod v1.0 beta 3 Edit: I think this is a Pro version and that's why i deleted the link. Edited June 16, 2010 by Jankov
Guest _Bobby Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 Thank you for your replies, time and the effort to test... You've been very helpful. Jankov, I've tried the UVR earlier (now too), but without any results. Same "empty file" problem. Flashing a custom ROM is a radical solution to the problem, yet it does not guarantee anything. I'm avoiding the custom ROM-s due to regular bugs and problems, but I'll consider the ROM you use. Pozdrav :) Spook Tooth, I'm very sorry for the inconvenience I've caused you. It appears that Android has a major drawback. I mean, all the things we can do, but no simple call recording? I'm so god damn disappointed... The police are the last resort, for they are usually incompetent and not interested, especially when approached by a foreigner. I simply needed something (like a phone recording) to justify my actions, if any... Perhaps I'll try with a Olympus TP-7 (combined with a recorder) or anything like it.
Guest preetkk Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 vrecorder records every incoming and outgoing call automatically and they are very small files same with voice recordings... available from the market

If you do that yourself it may be illegal (depending on your jurisdiction.) It doesn't works on 2.1, or later... Unfortunately... I use a Desire, but it's the same... If you have the new Android system, you cannot use neither Total Record, nor UVR.

Btw, AirVoice is not working, or any other call recorder. And I've tried many... A major 2.1 drawback. Same problem on other 2.1 phones, too... I guess I'm gonna use this to go back to 1.5 Edited June 16, 2010 by _Bobby
Guest _Bobby Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 I switched back to 1.5, but still not a single call recorder does the job. AllCallRecorder,Voice Recordings, vRecorder and many others. Useless... I think the pulse will get a Shift + Del ;)

Why don't you just use this one until you have a proof?

I don't have it anymore. I had a cookie few months ago. I've been really happy with this phone but this thing with the calls is driving me crazy.

But its locked, so you'd have to unlock it yourself (Its not a very difficult job, you can do it at home in ~30 minutes). I also have a Nokia 5200, which is locked too I think. By the way, there seem to be a lot call recorder apps for the 5200. I live in Austria, so if you really need it ... let me know ;) Edited June 16, 2010 by BigBearMDC

But I screwed something up (I installed a W800 firmware I think) and I had to give it to my operator for repair. Now I think its locked again :(

I hope you resolve this problem. As another forum user mentioned, you should maybe talk to your mobile operator, I'm sure they'd be able to assist you and would take action against this strange and disturbing person making threatening calls to your phone. The police can take a formal record that might be useful if things escalated but I totally understand if that seems like a waste of time, the police are not the easiest bunch to communicate with. Myself, I am thinking maybe rooted phones are too much effort - my own is rebooting itself far too much, with time outs for acore.whateveritisessentialandroidapp.whatnot always hanging every 5 seconds so if I can, I'll likely just go back to 1.5 once I've had my fill of it. Good luck sorting it. ;)

Then I had some problems while updating to 2.1. but nothing serious. My phone simply won't record a call ;) HiFi Recorder combined with the loudspeaker is not such a bad solution, but it only works indoors. Outside on the street, it's useless, for the noise interferes too much. It is also unsuitable for a covert rec. The mobile operators are not allowed to give away any information, unless there is a request by the police. The same goes for the ISP-s. Well, at least this is the case in the country I'm currently staying in and it's not my home country. The threat for slandering is what bothers me more. Therefore, extra caution is a must. The person behind the threats, which I'm very well acquainted with, is careless enough when speaking on the phone, that is why I need a call recorder. My previous attempt ended up with the infamous empty file and valuable intel slipped by me. :(

It should be fine then :) Also, its not that bad. Acceptable camera, UMTS etc. Best regards, BigBear
