hi title pretty much says it all, i was going to update my phone to the oscillation(dunno if this is what its called:P) ROM 2.1, and then i thought since ive updated to 2.1 i will need to reapply the recovery image, so i unplugged the USB from my phone and removed the battery, booted into bootloader (vol down, red key and power button) attached my usb cable back into the phone and double clicked install-recovery-windows, a black box pops up and stays in waiting for device....

any ideas how to get past this? if its becuase its alredy installed i cant remember the key sequence to boot into recovery, if any1 knows id appreciate it

thanks

If you updated from 1.5 to 2.1 you may need to update your PC suite drivers.

Downlod them from here.

Best regards,

Are you using the right driver?

If so, uninstall the old drivers and unplug the phone.

When you plug it in again Windows should ask you for the drivers.

What you have to do then is not letting him search for the drivers on it's own, but tell him to install explicitly the driver you want.

I just don't have any devices lying arround that would need me to install a new driver, and my OS's language is German, so I can't tell you exactly what you have to click on.

If you don't find the right buttons, just upload a screenshot and I'll tell you what to do :)

and ive just tried telling it not to search ill choose a location then copy and pasting the full path of where the files are and it says it doesnt contain any info about the drivers

maybe if you can tell me the button sequence to boot into recovery, i may have already installed it and that might be why it constantly waits for device?

thanks

You can boot into recovery by pressing PWR + menu + red key.

But this is pretty sure not the reason why its not working.

hmmm just booted into recovery, and its not hte amon ra recovery which i had for 1.5, its a different one with the following options:

-reboot system now

-wipe data/factory reset

-wipe cache partition

is this the standard one that comes with the 2.1 upgrade and so i will still need to flash amon ra again?

and if you hold on 2 mins im uploading pictures on the progress on updating that driver.

thanks

Okay, let me look at that a few seconds...

BTW this is indeed the stock Android recovery.

You'll have to reflash the amon-ra recovery.

Ahhh I see you're using Win XP :)

Yap that's right, you should then be able to choose the driver you want to install in the list box where the other driver is listed (last pic).

tried specifying each file in that folder from the last pic individually and it just keeps repeating the error that it doesnt have any info to do with the hardware... but it only allows me select .inf files? is this why its not working?

Hmm okay.

Have you tried uninstalling the old drivers first?

Although it shouldn't make any trouble...

Are you sure you're using the XP drivers?

ok i uninstalled the old drivers, im definately trying to install the xp drivers for 2.1, the thing is though that if i uninstall the driver it does so, but as soon as i reconnect my pulse, my pc automatically installs the original driver again and doesnt give me a chance to tell it which to install... then i go through update driver to get the same errors again.

erm i know this sounds a bit rude, but ive got an exam tomorrow, so im going to have to leave and do some revision, thanks very much for your help ill be in touch tomorrow to try and solve it

thanks alot!

Nah that doesn't sound rude at all ;)

School definetly has a higher priority.

You can though check the next time if there is an option to toally delete the driver from the system.

It should be a checkbox somwhere you'd have to tick to do so.

Once done, it should ask you for a driver the next time you plug your phone in.

heheh hi again:)

right ive made a little bit of progress, still not working though:D ive uninstalled pc suite and reinstalled that so the driver would be loaded again after being uninstalled and now its given me a different name under device manager so i think thats a good thing? :(

now i get 2 options on choosing drivers one being digitally signed, and the other not being digitally signed, however when rightclicking the driver and clicking properties under device manager ive noticed something that may be causing the problem:

if you look at the pictures on the wdfcoinstaller it says its for vista but i specifically downloaded the driver from the xp driver link on that thread you linked me to.

maybe this is a mistake on the guy who packed the zip files?

but other than that i dont have a clue how to do it, is there no other way of installing the driver?

and ive tried this on my desktop computer too with the exact same problems, so im beginning to think its to do with the rar maybe having a vista wdfcoinstaller rather than an xp one?

any ideas?

thanks

So from the problems Im having with the Win7 & WinXp driver it would suggest these drivers are bolloxed.

Found a fix - there was a link in this forum to the original CD -
