Guest T_r_i_s Posted June 17, 2010 Report Posted June 17, 2010 (edited) Hi all - I'm new to Android so apologies for the newbie question(s)... Basically I would like to know 1) how to uninstall and 2) which apps I can safely uninstall from the Dell Streak. (I can easily uninstall apps that I have downloaded) I have installed Advanced Task Cleaner and it lists what apps are running and what memory they are using. There's stuff installed which I have no interest or need to use like 'MP3 store' and 'Google Mail'. When I try to uninstall these apps, it says 'Uninstall unsuccessful' or something similar. I have rooted the Streak as per the instructions because it said on this page that I would be able to delete annoying stock apps So how do I remove these apps and can someone advise which apps are system apps and therefore needed? Please don't tell me MP3 store is a required app ;) Cheers Edited June 17, 2010 by T_r_i_s
Guest WilhelmsBrick Posted June 17, 2010 Report Posted June 17, 2010 Ay up, I'm using at the moment an app called "Root Explorer", it's only about a quid fifty and using that I deleted some stock apps such as the "touchdown" trial app for exchange and stuff. It's real easy to do. Just open root explorer, go to "system", then "app", make sure you have "Mount R/W" clicked at the top of the app and then presto - find the name of the app and delete. It's pretty easy to find what you can and shouldn't delete - if it's just an app name like "Touchdown", or gmail (as you want to delete) then you can delete it - but i'd stay away from anything you don't recognise such as "gesture framework" and OOD_OOM". If in doubt - google it, you'll probably find out what each .apk does and how important it is.
Guest T_r_i_s Posted June 17, 2010 Report Posted June 17, 2010 Thanks for the advice WilhelmsBrick - I will get downloading it...

Guest courtlandre Posted June 17, 2010 Report Posted June 17, 2010 I think if you google search for root explorer android you may be able to buy it directly.

Watch out for FB and twitter apps someone had trouble after removing them.
