Guest Absolon Posted June 18, 2010 Report Posted June 18, 2010 Hi, I've been rumbling about almost every "HOWTO" I can find about installing the USB-driver and I can't just seem to get it to work. Everything works find until I reboot the device with the vol-down and it asks me for "abd-driver" or "Android 1.0". No matter what USB-driver I've tried through advanced installation and pointing out the location it just says "Cannot install this hardware" so if I try to root it I'm stuck at step1 since adb can't find the device since it doesn't have the proper driver. I've tried to force it to load with no avail. It simply don't want to install it! I've tried in Windows XP (x32) and Win7 (x64). I tried every USB-driver I could find. Removed the drivers with that USB-uninstall, reinstalled. Got the latest ones, got the old ones, got the tweaked ones. NOTHING.... ARGH Is it me who are a complete idiot and missing something or can someone guide me to get this to work in the "boot mode"? If I boot up the device normally adb sees the device just fine. Device: HTC Desire OS: Every damn one ;) /Very very frustrated Abs
Guest EddyOS Posted June 18, 2010 Report Posted June 18, 2010 use the TinyCore Linux rooting method, works everytime
Guest TboneCam Posted June 18, 2010 Report Posted June 18, 2010 Yeah, I know it doesn't answer your question. But Tiny Core Linux live CD is awesome.. I know bugger-all about linux, but its a real no-brainer
Guest Absolon Posted June 18, 2010 Report Posted June 18, 2010 Ok, will try it that way. Just irritates me that I can't get it done in Windows, even though I have Linux at home. Trying to build a nice VmWare-build-env for general development (not just Android) and people tend to be so confused when it comes to Linux ;) Any other hints or solutions for Windoze are much appreciated! There must be some guru out there *beg*
Guest EddyOS Posted June 18, 2010 Report Posted June 18, 2010 Recovery works fine in Windows (I use Fake-Flash now, though) - I could never get the rooting working but the TC method works like a charm!! ;)

Have you tried installing HTC Sync? I personally use Linux so drivers aren't a problem for me. But apparently installing HTC Sync worked for people rooting on Windows IIRC...
Guest EddyOS Posted June 18, 2010 Report Posted June 18, 2010 That's cause HTC Sync includes the drivers...
Guest xTc is loVe Posted June 18, 2010 Report Posted June 18, 2010 (edited) That's cause HTC Sync includes the drivers... Why u dont use the Method without PC!? R6 Rooting Method ;-) Easily Rename the testimage from modaco to PB99IMG.zip and push it to your sdard and the update.zip which includes koush´s recovery. U fastboot the PB99IMG.zip instead of step1.bat and u install the update.zip instead of step2.bat =) Edited June 18, 2010 by xTc is loVe
Guest Absolon Posted June 18, 2010 Report Posted June 18, 2010 (edited) Yes, I have HTC Sync installed but when I get to the initial bootscreen it's drivers won't work either. Xtc: Can you explain that a bit more? Sounds marvelous if I could skip the PC ;) /A more happy Abs now :( Edit: It worked! Thanx! (now I am in the circle of reboots after installing a new room but that is another topic) Edited June 18, 2010 by Absolon
