Guest Arcalis Posted June 19, 2010 Report Posted June 19, 2010 Hello All, I'm hoping you can help me with rooting my T-Mobile (UK) HTC Hero (G2 Touch). I have done A LOT (and I really mean a lot) of reading on how to root the UK Hero on T-Mobile. It seems I have to do it the really long way ;) I have been reading the instructions over and over again and, put simply, I just can't figure them out! I'm no dunce when I comes to computers but I am genuinely scared to tackle this! haha I remember finding a website through google with a link to an application that removed about 15 steps by doing a load of things automatically. But for the life of me I can't find the website again...does anyone know what application I'm talking about? (Maybe I was dreaming it?) (Sidenote: Jailbreaking your iPhone seems really easy (there are a ton of applications that will do everything for you) so I'm kinda wondering when no industrious developer hasn't tried to do something similar on Android? I understand that there are billions of different Android handsets but I would have thought by now, what with the massive number of developers on the platform, that someone would have created an application do root Android phones automatically for the popular handsets.) Failing that, I'm willing to pay anyone in the Norwich/Lowestoft vicinity to root my phone for me! (Obviously, no responsibility on your part if you happen to brick it...) haha Thanks for your help everyone. Simon
Guest mobydeek Posted June 19, 2010 Report Posted June 19, 2010 Instant Root? http://androidcommunity.com/forums/f28/ins...root-apk-25275/ Chances are it wont work since u have a T-Mo G2 Touch. U'll have to use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=645253 It seemed scary at first, but it was a lot quicker than expected. The steps are essentially: 1. Prep Gold Card 2. Flash RUU 3. Flash ROM you want Part 1 probably took the longest. It'll be worth it, especially since it seems unlikely there will be another official update on the Android version.

They are the instructions I shied away from, I guess I just don't trust myself to follow it through!
Guest Arcalis Posted June 19, 2010 Report Posted June 19, 2010 Just so you know, I have started the process of rooting....I'm s*** scared haha! So far so good though...I have created the Goldcard and have successfully downgraded the OS version. I will keep updating this post, if anyone is interested, that is. I'm thinking of posting my thoughts on the whole process after I'm done, if 'on the fence' rooters would find it helpful...
