Guest Tebo2K Posted June 21, 2010 Report Posted June 21, 2010 Hi folks, The only reason that I haven't downloaded a Froyo ROM is that I like Sense UI... I once tried aHome and I didn't like it as it kept crashing... can you fine people recommend a replacement for Sense? I currently use all 7 screens (ok, I could cut it down to 5 without losing any of the functionality that I like..) I like the clock widget with the weather / world clock / alarm bundled with it - would I still be able to use that without Sense or can someone point me in the direction of another widget that will do the same thing? I would lke to try the Froyo releases that are out just now, but I can't find a replacement UI then I'll just wait for HTC to work their magic ;) Many thanks for your advice Iain
Guest spammyspam Posted June 21, 2010 Report Posted June 21, 2010 I flashed Froyo yesterday and lasted 10 mins before I flashed back 'cos I missed Sense so much. I realised that it wasn't just a skin, but had some other functionality too (like FB contact linking) Probably not very helpful but I'd like to know of an alternative too.

I like the original Froyo Launcher better then sense UI. It is also I really dislike the bevelled 3D graphic designs. I also find sense UI a bit too "shinny full of candy", whatever that means. On my hero (which I replaced with a desire a few days ago), it was a bit too heavy to run sense UI I guess. A bit off topic, but nevertheless I think because of HTC trying to keep up with porting sense UI to 1.6, 2.0, 2.1 now 2.2, updated ROMS are always late. Take hero 2.1 update for instance. So, I personally belive HTC better of doing great HW and put a little branding on stock Android and release as more often as base android. Of course that's my 2c. Response to the OP, I like the froyo ROM and I'll keep it... ;) Regards, Hasan Ceylan
Guest EddyOS Posted June 21, 2010 Report Posted June 21, 2010 (edited) FancyWidget is a copy of the HTC Widget, FB syncs with contacts fine (as does Twitter) Here's my homescreen (or was, the new FroYo doesn't work with the black bar mod) - Imagine this with the stock white bar and you've got my phone at present Edited June 21, 2010 by EddyOS
Guest The_IMF Posted June 21, 2010 Report Posted June 21, 2010 There's the weather widget which gives the HTC style clock and weather you can purchase but the only thing that I can't live without now is that bloody Friendsstream!!! If there's an alternative to this; then I'll gladly dump Sense!

It is paid app but IMO worth that money
Guest The_IMF Posted June 21, 2010 Report Posted June 21, 2010 FancyWidget is a copy of the HTC Widget, FB syncs with contacts fine (as does Twitter) Here's my homescreen (or was, the new FroYo doesn't work with the black bar mod) - Imagine this with the stock white bar and you've got my phone at present Brilliant... just used LauncherPro with this widget and "Pure Messenger Widget" (which replicates Friendstream and does more!) and am going to run my phone like this for a while. If I'm happy for the next couple of days; I may go to Froyo... just I do actually use the damn video camera! Might wait until the end of the month! ;)
Guest franciswills Posted June 21, 2010 Report Posted June 21, 2010 (edited) I'm in the same boat. I'd love to drop the Sense launcher and use LauncherPro but: 1) I'm yet to find a really nice 4x3 clock that can match/better the Sense analog clock. There are lots of QVGA low-res ones, but I haven't found anything good and high-res that also allows access to the alarm clock and so on. 2) The Sense dialer is excellent. How are the stock dialer/alternatives? T9 is an absolute must for me along with niceties like the proximity sensor, dialpad in call etc. 3) There are lots of weather widgets but none of the ones I've used measure up to simply how well done the Sense one is. I understand that (as far as I know) it's not possible to have Sense widgets on a non-Sense launcher, but for those of us that have parted with cash to HTC, it would be nice for them to let you use them outside their launcher. Maybe a little off topic but I do think Google should have widget design guidelines in the same way they have icon design guidelines, ideally with Photoshop templates so that there can be more, better looking widgets. Finding a pretty and useful widget is a bit of a needle in a haystack effort at the mo. Edit: Man I should do some research before I go off whining like that: http://developer.android.com/guide/practic...get_design.html - Saying that, it does look a little out of date compared to the shiny new flat icons. Guest bhups Posted June 22, 2010 Report Posted June 22, 2010 When using the phone dialer on the desire using r3.1 and typing either the name or number on the dial, it used to give me the contact that I have on my sim and other locations. This no longer happens on the r17 Froyo FRF72. Is this because the it was a feature on HTC Sense ? It seems loosing sense is actually becoming a real big loss.

You can get another one off the market which does the same thing but can't remember what it's called...
Guest The_IMF Posted June 22, 2010 Report Posted June 22, 2010 Right, After trying my best to give myself a "Sense Experience" without Sense. I have decided that I actually quite like the Sense Experience and all the widgets in the market can't make up for missing Sense (for me anyway and only my opinion) I can live without the enhancements of 2.2 for now... I did live with 1.5 on the Hero for long enough before this!
Guest chrissyg Posted June 22, 2010 Report Posted June 22, 2010 Yes the dialler is sense. You can get another one off the market which does the same thing but can't remember what it's called... It's called 'Dialler One', free app
Guest grail Posted June 23, 2010 Report Posted June 23, 2010 I tried Froyo for a while and liked it, but I really missed the ability to control music from the lock screen. I've tried a few other music players but not aware of any simple free alternatives?
Guest bhups Posted June 23, 2010 Report Posted June 23, 2010 It's called 'Dialler One', free app Many thanks chrissyg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This app is that exactly what I was looking for! and is now the reason for me stick with Froyo ;) :( :) Very many thanks again!
Guest miguelsanchez79 Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 Has anybody foud replacment for sense album widged?
