ToDoList: 1) Connect B7610 to PC per USB to change Data between Phone and PC 2) Sync Data (PIM, Contacts, eMail) with evolution (Ubuntu-Outlook-Alternative) 3) Connect and Sync per WLAN Extra: HowTo sync with a VirtualMachine (VirtualBox) - A Small Tutorial will follow! Any help about this topic is welcome ;) Edited June 24, 2010 by Freezy1982
Guest Freezy1982 Posted June 23, 2010 Report Posted June 23, 2010 (edited) HowTo install and configure VirtualBox for synchronizing your B7610 via USB (on a Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Lucid Lynx System with WindowsXP as virtual Machine) First I would like to excuse my english. Please don't count mistakes or wrong words ;) I'm using a german Ubuntu Version and I will try to translate every system-advice as good as I know - please correct me if some steps are unclear! Furthermore I would like to indicate to the official german site UbuntuWiki. There you can read more (all) about VirtualBox and how to install it step by step: http://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/virtualbox For all other languages there is a detailed english UserManual in Folder /usr/share/doc/virtualbox-3.2/UserManual.pdf on your PC to read more about VirtualBox. This Topic is only a short overwiev, which steps are neccessary to make and what settings schould be made for a "fast" and unproblematic running. *EDIT: some pictures will follow shortly! Let's start! Installation of VirtualBox: - Go in your taskbar to: System > Operation Controls > Package Management - Install: virtualbox-3.2 and all addictions Start VirtualBox and add a virtual machine (VirtualMachine = VM): - Go in taskbar to: Applications > System Tools > Oracle VM VirtualBox Now the VM-Manager will open which contains all your (future) VM's. - Click 'New' and create a new VM *NOTE: At this point you can feel free, what VM you would like to create. Please follow exactly the instructions VirtualBox shows you - there are lots of information displayed and the creation of needed DiskSpace and creating your VM are selfexplanatory. For more info please RTFM (ReadTheFu**Manual) or use google :( *EDIT: If you get too deep into difficulties I will make a short HowTo for this too - please tell me if this is neccessary.. Configure your VM: - After creating click on your VM and then on 'Adjust' - Check in: Network > Adapter 1 if the following settings are set: Networkadapter activated = checked Connected to: Networkbridge Name: eth0 or wlan0 (addicted to your connection of Ubuntu) - Check in USB that all USB-Controllers are active. Now it is neccessary to count VirtualBox in your user group: - Go to terminal: sudo adduser USERNAME vboxusers (USERNAME = your UbuntuName) - If no errors occour close the terminal and do a logoff and logon of your Ubuntu System! - Now you can start your VM with 'Start' Installing Windows on VirtualBox: - First you need: Installation CD (or image) of your preferred Windows with a vaild licence *NOTE: I only tried WinXP Pro (because of license). Please report if other Versions are running without problems too! - Install your Windows as usual, do upgrades, customize as you want and you like.. BUT: don't plugin your B7610! - Install Microsoft Office if you want to sync later on with Outlook Install additional settings of VirtualBox: - Click in VirtualBoxWindow on: Devices > Install additionals and follow the instructions in your VM Arrangements for Syncing: - Make sure VirtualBox is started but your VM is not running - Plugin your B7610 via USB - Go to: Adjust > USB - Add here a new filter (right symbols) and choose Samsung Electronics GT-B7610 so it occours in the list Now your B7610 is rooted to your VM just when you plug it in. - Disconnect your B7610 and start your fresh new Windows - Download and install ActiveSync on your VM and plugin your B7610 once again - Now follow the instructions you already know about ActiveSync and its adjustments You're done! Now your B7610 should be connected properly and ready to sync :) *NOTE: Use this on your own risk. Not a final Tutorial yet - Updates will follow.. Edited June 23, 2010 by Freezy1982
