Guest The Virus 2013 Posted June 22, 2010 Report Posted June 22, 2010 Sorry if the questions are already answered somewhere but I didn't find it, and sorry also for my poor english... ;) I just bought an HTC Desire and I want it to be rooted so I can install apps like Market Enabler for example. But before I do, I have a few questions... If I just do the rooting trick, the ROM in my phone will still be the one shipped with the phone ? I don't really want to try custom roms for the moment, I just want to be root but keep the system already installed. If not, is there a way to backup the rom before it's replaced ? The last one, if I do the rooting things, will I still receive "Over The Air" updates from HTC ? How does it work for that ? Thank you a lot for all... ;-)
Guest funaki Posted June 22, 2010 Report Posted June 22, 2010 I am new to the whole rooting scene aswell but ill answer some of the questions to the best of my knowledge. 1. Yes it will be the one your phone is shipped with. Everything as stock except you will see super user permission. 2. No need. 3. I don't think you'll receive OTA updates. I guess you'll have to flash locally once the update is packaged. Someone needs to correct me for the 3rd questions because i am not sure.
Guest The Virus 2013 Posted June 22, 2010 Report Posted June 22, 2010 Thank you for your answer. In fact, the most important think for me is Market Enabler. So I want to root my phone, but keep my actual rom (which will be the case as you said), and continue receiving OTA updates, even if it makes me loose the root access. In that case, I'll reroot as soon as it is again possible... But if I don't receive update, I'm not sure I'll do it... Can someone confirm this ?
Guest spammyspam Posted June 22, 2010 Report Posted June 22, 2010 You will end up with a new factory reset Desire with a brand new custom ROM. You can choose which ROM to use, but it must be rooted. Best to keep the one in the instructions then move to MCR or something. Not sure how to backup the ROM. I just downloaded my stock ROM from the web for backup purposes. Finally, I think you will no longer have a valid HTC Desire ROM and so it won't find any updates for your ROM. You can reflash your phone with the latest HTC update, but you will lose your root.
Guest funaki Posted June 22, 2010 Report Posted June 22, 2010 as spammyspam mentioned, you can root your phone but wont receive OTA updates. Just root your phone, and install market enabler. I rooted for the same reason. I would suggest not to turn on OTA Updates. Current root solutions are only going to work if you have Hboot version 0.75 or 0.80. Incase if the future OTA updates bring a newer Hboot version then it will take even longer to root your device. So just go ahead root your phone, update to 1.21 using an already rooted device and thats it. Once the new update comes out just wait someone will package a ROM minus the new hboot and we will be able to update again.
Guest The Virus 2013 Posted June 23, 2010 Report Posted June 23, 2010 I think I'll wait some more... I'm a little bit affraid to do that, on a brand new phone. I hope (I know, I know...) that Google will unblock his Market soon. Thanks for replies guys !
