eclair crashes

on all eclair roms my liquid crashes from time to time and doesnt wake up from standby.

you can go arround this bug by setting the data connection to only 3g or only 2g but this is very annoying:( i think this problem is kernel connected because on froyo and donut i got no problems. In addition to this in apreviuos rthread some gyus found out that if the phone crashes it produces an kernelpanic document in the system data.

HAS SOMEONE AN IDEA TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM?! ITS REALY STUPID BECAUSE ECLAIR IS SO COOL AND I DONT WANT TO GO BACK TO DONUT:(

Set your connection to 2G or 3G only.

Honestly tho, I have been using LCR 1.7 for over a day and switching between 2G/3G/WiFi frequently (don't get 3G in my house. badword AT&T) and have had no problems. Hoping it continues as it has been.

In addition to this in apreviuos rthread some gyus found out that if the phone crashes it produces an kernelpanic document in the system data.

That would have been in this thread. (Wäre übrigens schön gewesen, wenn Du Deinen Post an den dran gehängt hättest, dann hätte ich ihn nicht suchen müssen. ;) )

How about you? Do you have some kernel panic information? This would be vital in order to find out what happened and what is causing those frequent crashes. So far, my Liquid crashed four times with today being the most recent crash. However, I got a panic log only once in apanic.txt on my SD card.

Locking the phone to 2G/3G is no option for me. There are some places around that give me pretty bad reception when the phone is set to 2G only (big thanks to O2 Germany) and vice versa.

Your observation that those crashes do not appear with Donut and Froyo (which uses disc0's modified Donut kernel) is another hint that my kernel panic theory may be right. A way to fix it? I believe no, as long as there is no source for the Eclair kernel or someone will modify one of the custom Eclair ROMs in such a way that it runs with the disc0 kernel.

Before anyone complains about me using another language than English here is what I wrote: BTW it would have been nice if you added your post to the old thread - then I would not have needed to search for it. ;-)

You are right.

I spoke already with malez he thinks it has to be hardware related because only some liquids have this bug.

but in all cases it has to be kernel. Tomorrow I have got no schoolso I will trying to get more information on this issue.

I will try to convince someone of the devs trying to include dinut kernel into eclair...;) I hope someone of them will do this for us.

Ps. Hab den thread nicht mehr gefunden und war zu faul zu suchenXD außerdem wolte ich noch mehr differenzieren...

Yeah that bug was bothering me. Shitty that you still have it, for some reason I have yet to have it on LCR 1.7.

It is annoying but it worked. If you use BetterCut, you can make a shortcut for the menu "Testing" directly onto your homescreen so you don't have to dial all that. I was doing that, switching to 2G only/3G only wherever 3G was unavailable. If you have a shortcut on a homescreen and just take precautions depending on where you are, it should not affect you and should be pretty easy to do.

you are right it works but why hasthe phone this funktion if we dont use it;) especially i dont know where 3g or g is available^^so u often have no service and have to switch... sooo plaese one of the devs who reads this and has time to do it and if its öpossible could you plaese build for example withe newest leak and perhabs the disco kernel or just the comon donut kernel a rom?!??? PLAESE:) i think i am not the only one who realy needs this Xd

Which carrier are you using? I never had the problem when I was using T-mobile but I started to face the problem when I switched to O2.

What I can think of is that O2 is sending some kind of control data during cell handover that T-mobile was not sending (or vice versa) and that eventually leads to some null-pointer access inside the kernel. The panic that was posted in the other thread depicts some null-pointer trouble...

I might want to add that we still have no official Eclair release from Acer so there is still hope.

Iaam using eplus but before this I used vodafone... but I think that was only on donut. .tomorrow I will try this with my old vodafone card...

Yes u are right but some guy here said that he send his phone to acer with donut and it came back with eclair 1.0005:(

I also have this problem... But strange thing, it occured some time after the flash to eclair... In others words, this is a recent problem for me.

I had one of those panic logs on my SD card but unfortunately deleted it, before I took a look inside. I am such a stupid person sometimes...

I wrote something into the other thread about the panic log we had there.

My phone just crashed again while I was waiting for an inportant SMS, so this is also getting annoying to me. Still, no panic log. The bad thing is, that you cannot track down an error without knowing its source.

When the phone crashes, all of the usual logging facilities like adb logcat, adb shell and others do not work. Hmm, maybe I could write an app or just a simple script that periodically dumps the kernel ringbuffers contents to the SD card.

Two problems: last time I did Linux kernel hacking has been more than six years ago and I just dont have the time at the moment.

Hey Liquid devs, how about a little challenge for you? :D

On LCR, you can disable some network optimization with

adb shell network.sh stantard

to re-enable optimization

adb shell network.sh high

Maybe it could help if you have 2g/3g switching issues
