push email in native htc app - possible?

I actually prefer the native HTC app to the gmail app bundled with my desire but there seems to he one thing missing... true push email.

Is there any way I can set this up for my gmail account (its a Google apps for your domain account if it makes a difference)?

I have tried the IMAP option and also the exchange option but neither offer true push.

Out of interest what settings did you use?

I set it up using m.google.com as the server and google as the domain. It works, but I can't get it to download more than a few emails. I wan't it to sync the last few months emails but it won't (even with the settings on download all email)

Any help would be appreciated as I really want push email.
