Guest Willie Heckerslyke Posted June 23, 2010 Report Posted June 23, 2010 Hi everyone.... I've finally managed to root and get A2SD onto my Desire, thanks to umpteen hours worth of reading, ummm... reading and....umm, more reading, on this, and many other forums! Many, thanks for everyone on these forums, who chip in with their comments and observations, that they might think, are lost in the 'ethos' and have been a waste of their time and effort.... However, I can vouch from my experience of trying to get my head around all the different procedures involved in flashing/rooting, that they are absolutely vital...both negative and postive comments on the procedure....in helping the numpty's like myself - who are venturing into this dark world for the first time :( As I've now got my phone rooted etc; I'm now looking to flash with the seemingly endless versions of custom ROM's available. I've found rom manager a godsend and it infact saved my bacon when my first attempt to flash went a bit skew-whiff, by doing a restore of my 'good' backup.... I've obviously now done another backup of my phone as it is at the minute. However, what I'm looking for now, is a ROM that can offer the main 'hardware' features of the Desire ( like camera, FM radio etc..) but can offer a better battery life than the 'bog-standard' ROM... I don't know if such a thing exists tbh....but I read on my learning curve journey of forum hopping, about someone who was claiming to be using a custom ROM (with various functions stripped away) that was enabling him to go 2/3/4 days of his 'normal' usage, before a charge was necessary - whereas he needed to do it 'nightly' with the stock ROM....(pie-in-the-sky maybe, I don't know....) If I remember correctly, he was using a ROM based on froyo...and it didn't/doesn't have the cam recording working as yet... The video cam isn't something that I 'desperately' need to have working, as I've only used it once since I had the phone. But, it's sod's law that I'll need it a month down the line somewhere, so I'd 'prefer' to have all the hardware features intact if at all possible.... Is there a ROM that gives a better battery life than the stock one...but has most/all the hardware features of the Desire still working ok...? Many thanks for any advice or info... A. Newb..... ;)
Guest StrongOneX Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 Is there a ROM that gives a better battery life? I think the radio has more impact on the battery than the ROM, so checking what radio version that uses less battery would be better. All FroYo roms are battery monsters. The whole thing becomes hot because of a bug that makes the phone become hot even without doing something even at the lowest screen brightness. So i couldn't had been a froyo rom. You should check out the different radio versions or buy an extra large battery from ebay. those last several days!
Guest Dr. Koch Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 I'm using this 2.1 sense UI ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=707147) Before this I used Pays ROM which drained my battery in about 18-24 hours without any real battery draining tasks. With the above ROM the battery time has increased a lot. Now the average time is about 36 hours... which is great in my opinion... It's fully working.
