Guest killRushv2 Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 I'm currently running FRF72 and having a few issues so I want to wipe and have a clean install for FRF83. My main concern is I want to keep some of my apps that are no longer available on the market. They were free apps (e.g. TV.com and NY Times) but when I search for them on the market, nothing comes up. I've searched all over for backup .apk files to restore the apps after the move but cannot find anything. While there are only a few apps I want to back up, they just happen to be apps that I really like and would prefer not losing if at all possible. I have tried both Astro and Titanium and neither one will back the program itself up (only data is backed up). I have also attempted using a2sd with no luck. Perhaps I'm just doing something wrong. I've been searching these forums and xda for hours but cannot find anything. Does anyone have any suggestions? Any help would be appreciated.
Guest raptor402 Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 Try Titanium Backup from the marketplace. It can backup all your apps and their data. Hope this helps.
Guest killRushv2 Posted June 25, 2010 Report Posted June 25, 2010 Thank you for the reply. I have tried to use titanium but it will only backup the data when I back up those apps (just a check mark not the Smiley face or even the "M").
Guest EddyOS Posted June 25, 2010 Report Posted June 25, 2010 Get 'App Manager' from the Market, you can backup apps to the SD card

Search for APKoptic on the market, it will copy all your applications in a folder on your SD card. Note that locked applications cannot be backed up by this app. Edited June 25, 2010 by Batkoto
Guest killRushv2 Posted June 26, 2010 Report Posted June 26, 2010 APKotic was able to get most of them! So really the only 2 I couldn't back up were NY Times and TV.com. is there any way possible to backup protected apps? The obvious answer is likely to be no but I'm just trying to be hopeful here.
Guest HomerPSimpson Posted June 26, 2010 Report Posted June 26, 2010 (edited) Try Titanium Backup from the marketplace. It can backup all your apps and their data. Hope this helps. Titanium is your best bet. It is the easiest and the best. i tried very back up app in the market and outside the market. This is THE BEST! If it is backing up only data, there is a workaround for that. It is mainly because of the BusyBox. Here is what you must do after downloading the latest version: 1. When in the App, click on the [Problems] button and download the BusyBox again (even if you did it before) 2. From the settings, change the compression to LZO 3. Run your Batch backup and MAKE SURE YOU DO THE BACKUP FOR ALL APPS AND SYSTEM DATA 4. Wait for it to complete 5. After it is complete, download the BusyBox again from the Problems button My guess is that FroYo has its own A2SD, and it stores it in the .android.secure folder in the SD and Titanium cannot get access to it and it is skipping the .apk file backup but it grabs the data. So downloading the busybox before and after the backup and changing the compression to LZO does solve that problem. I have tried it since I was in the same situation you are in till i tried this. Now all is A-OK! Give it a shot! Edited June 26, 2010 by HomerPSimpson
Guest AndyCr15 Posted June 29, 2010 Report Posted June 29, 2010 I'm trying to do this, it moves quite quick, but crashes out on step 3 around 14% and says it's all done? (I have 217 apps) Any ideas?

(I have 217 apps) Any ideas? Are you trying to restore from a previous backup or trying to backup all the apps and data you have currently (fully functional apps with data)? Can you give me more specifics please? Please note: If you had already backed up with a different compression (gzip or something) changing the compression to LZO will not restore the apps from the previous gzip backup. I didn't realize that that was because they were installed in the SD card and Titanium can't grab the .apks from there.

There was obviously a bug though, there was an update to Titanium this morning and it now works again.

There is an Official Support Forum for all issues and the devs there are really, i mean REALLY quick in addressing these issues. They also say that they will refund the money if this does not work and you are not satisfied. I advice you to visit their support forum. Titanium Backup Offical Support Forum This is where I went to get my problems solved. The devs are doing really good for their customers. They are doing a MUCH better job for their customers than Apple is doing to their customers.

It's ok now though because I restored the important ones and re-downloaded the others. After the clean install I was able to do the backup again and now everything is A-OK for me as well.
