Guest T39andcounting Posted June 25, 2010 Report Posted June 25, 2010 OK, so I've installed the MCR 4 Android 2.1 ROM, and my Hero now looks a lot more slick and more responsive, but other than that, is there anything else that I should be excited about? I can't see a 1.5-2.1 comparison anywhere, so any suggestions on what the serious 'wow' factors are in 2.1?
Guest FunkTrooper Posted June 25, 2010 Report Posted June 25, 2010 More apps are compatible with 2.1. It's all a little faster. There are loads of little bugfixes, like headset bugs which are especially annoying on 1.5. It doesn't take so long to ‘press and hold’ on 2.1. The market is much better than 1.5.
Guest venturerider Posted June 25, 2010 Report Posted June 25, 2010 If you use anniversary dates in Google Contacts, they are on your phone.
Guest toxic-hero Posted June 25, 2010 Report Posted June 25, 2010 and possibility to have more than one google account synced to your telephone...
Guest toxic-hero Posted June 25, 2010 Report Posted June 25, 2010 (edited) oh, and sending files via bluetooth is finally working. Edited June 25, 2010 by toxic-hero
Guest subhramani Posted June 26, 2010 Report Posted June 26, 2010 You can show off to other phone manufacturers that even HTC now has 2.1
Guest sinnadyr Posted June 27, 2010 Report Posted June 27, 2010 You can show off to other phone manufacturers that even HTC now has 2.1 They already have it...
Guest Richard K. Szabo Posted June 27, 2010 Report Posted June 27, 2010 Indeed, a lot faster than 1.5. Things are finally responsive. Root it, use AutoKiller to further improve performance. Am I to understand that you're actually running the official 2.1 from HTC? Europe? More apps are compatible with 2.1. It's all a little faster. Guest nortynort Posted June 27, 2010 Report Posted June 27, 2010 (edited) The Youtube app in 2.1 is night and day from the 1.5 one, in terms of quality and speed Overall speed though, modaco 3.2 is much much faster for me, its more sluggish in 2.1 and seems to eat more battery but I'm sure paul will fix it by the time the final is released Edited June 27, 2010 by nortynort

Maybe they are comparing stock 1.5 vs 2.1.
Guest toxic-hero Posted June 27, 2010 Report Posted June 27, 2010 (edited) for me r4b3 WIP is a little bit faster than mcr3.2. it sucked battery really quick until i did this. now it's the same as with mcr3.2. Edited June 27, 2010 by toxic-hero
Guest Richard K. Szabo Posted June 28, 2010 Report Posted June 28, 2010 Could you be more specific? Can anyone confirm if this is the European release? 1.5 is definitely faster than 2.1
Guest lannatwin Posted June 28, 2010 Report Posted June 28, 2010 1.5 is definitely faster than 2.1 Faster at what? I find boot times to be similar. Apps seem to load a little slower in 2.1. Overall, 2.1 feels smoother and more refined.
Guest Dr. dre Posted June 28, 2010 Report Posted June 28, 2010 Can anyone confirm if this is the European release? No! this isn't the European release, this ROM is based on the Taiwanese released 2.1 ROM.
Guest subhramani Posted June 28, 2010 Report Posted June 28, 2010 I think we just went gaga over the eclair. I really don't see much difference to be honest. Maybe the menu is just a little categorized with little icons and a little bit upgrades in maps, market etc which hardly makes a difference. And yeah, bluetooth OBEX. Apart from that, Eclair surely seems more sluggish than the 1.5.
