Froyo 2.2 FRF72 root help please

Hey all,

New Nexus one owner! I just got the Froyo 2.2 FRF72 on my Nexus 1 by doing it manually...but I want to root my phone to get other features ect...I heard I can download a custom rom and it will already be rooted? Can anyone point me in the right direction please and give me a few steps on how to do it?
