hello there,

I've downloaded an XviD movie (don't knowing it was XviD, it was an AVI file on some dodgy place), and I tried to play it on windows media player at my desktop pc, but it can't handle the movie. Mediaplayer tried to search for codecs, but thre were none available.

I've searched on the internet, but I can't find a XviD player or something like that.

Any idea's how to play this movie?

Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure where I got my codec from, but if you want to try Google the filename of it was "XviD MPEG-4 codec Install.exe" (part of the Nimo codec pack Keystroke suggested). I think this codec is in beta, and judging by the quality of it i'm not surprised! I can't understand why anyone would use it over DiVX, but maybe that's just the one video i've got using this codec. What do other people think of it?

Well it's just because I didn't know it was a XviD file, it was named as *.avi in some dodgy place, so I just started downloading, but when the file was completed I saw it was a *.XviD file. If I knew, I wouldn't even downloaded this movie. Now I'm feaked uot because I can't play the movie.

I have downloaded the Nmo codec pack, and there is no sound!

but thanks anyway, Keystroke and HelloDave.

Zim -what player are you using? Winamp sometimes flips it for no good reason when playing back. Use Zoom Player, think you can rotate it in that.

XviD is just like DivX, except a wee bit better..

if you can get to the codec options when playing (i use bsplayer (bsplayer, org) and you can get to them there) you can flip video, that fixes the upside down playing. xvids can be great quality at least a par on divx. and xvids also play on mvp, admititly not as well as divx but things can only get better

I just formatted my HDD to switch to RAID. So I've been codec huntin' too.

You may need to search for/download....

3ivx_d4_404_win.zip

ac3filter_0_63b.exe

DivX502Bundle.exe

ffdshow-20030103.exe

Nimo50Build8.zip

XviD-04102002-1.exe

XviD_Install.exe

I've installed all of the above and i'm no longer having problems playing back 'backups' of my DVD's.

If you can't find them online drop me a line and I'll send them to you.

Try:

www.dabs.com

Failing that a brick through the Dixons window is a good idea. lol.

52x External?

What model is that? Is it USB2, Firewire or something else?

http://www.fasttrackmovies.com/forum/default.asp is a forum mainly devoted to downloading movies and burning them. One piece of advice their experts offer is NOT to use the Nimo pack, because some of the included codecs cause new problems. But any questions you might have on ANY aspect of downloading and burning movies will be covered there, several times over.
