i am still very confused about this whole flashing thingy..

wth is recovery ? malezrecovery? superboot? boot.img? wipe SD? flash over any bin? nandroid backup? android sdk? kernel? ext2 partition?

(i think i need an acer liquid dictionary :lol: )

i was looking at the procedure for installing lcr1.7 and the procedure for rooting and installing custom roms in "theunlocker"

the two are similar except the part where malez recovery comes in it says:(2) Check here http://code.google.com/p/acer-liquid-malez-recovery/ if a new recovery version is available. Put the new recovery in the unpacked directory and rename it recovery.img

whats the difference about?

lcr1.7 proceedure also says this: Acer Liquid drivers for Windows (drivers provided in acer support webpage do not always work)

what does this mean? i already installed the drivers from acer website before. does that mean i have to uninstal first then install the driver posted on lcr1.7 website?

i also dont get what these statements mean:

Superboot (don't flash the boot.img)

Important : If you have used apps2sd before installing, always do a WIPE SD in the sdcard menu of the recovery before flashing LCR

i was hoping to understnd everything before i mess with my phone :D

Here are the steps to install malez recovery and rooting the phone. Steps are thanks to destroy.

Him and malez helped me out when i started out..

1 : You need to download the android SDK : http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html

2 : Unpack your sdk package, inside you have a folder called "tools" and a file called "adb.exe"

now what you do :

3 : Run a command prompt (start > run > cmd)

4 : Browse to your SDK folder (the folder where you unpacked your zip package)

5 : Flash the boot to malez recovery (its really needed also for backup- you wont regret!) (and a rollback patch will be available soon too)

Follow these instructions carefully : http://code.google.com/p/acer-liquid-malez-recovery/ (its really simple!)

* copy recovery image to your androidsdk/tools/ folder

* go in cmd (if you are under windows) or terminal (under linux)

* cd androidsdk/tools/

* adb reboot bootloader

* fastboot -i 0x0502 flash recovery malezRecovery_XX.img

* fastboot -i 0x0502 reboot

6 : now your bootloader is flashed to malez recovery, now comes the best part!

7 : Run CMD again and browse to your android sdk / tools folder

8 : Type in : adb reboot recovery (plugin your phone first!)

9 : Phone will reboot

10 : choose to root your phone using method 1

11 : vola!!!

Recovery - Android tool which gives user many options for configuring device, flashing .zip files, backup, and many others. It exists in it own partition

Malez recovery - best recovery for Liquid atm

Superboot - boot.img which gives you root access

Boot.img - package including kernel and ramdisk

Wipe SD - format SD

Flash over bin - install .zip file via recovery

Nandroid backup - backup which can be done using recovery

Android SDK - set of powerful tools created by Google which can help you with your device, also can emulate virtual devices

Kernel - The kernel is a program that constitutes the central core of a computer operating system. It has complete control over everything that occurs in the system. It is part of boot.img

Ext2 partition - partition of SD card which is used to store apps when using A2SD

thanks guys.. so what i understand, malezrecovery replaces the standard recovery of android? and to install malezrecovery, u can either use android sdk tools as stated by b4rt, or use the superboot.zip as stated in lcr 1.7 procedure by double clicking the bat files of the extracted superboot?

then where does nandroid backup come in? do i do a nandroid backup before i flash the lcr rom?

many thanks.

You don't have to (I didn't) but it probably would be smart to.

If anything goes wrong, you can use the hardware button combinations (sticked on the top) to get back into recovery and restore your backup. Backup is basically insurance.

malezrecovery and superboot are two different things, usually you need to install malezrecovery (with adb or using install-recovery-windows.bat from LCR) wich gives you options to backup your device and install custom ROMs. Since custom ROMs (like LCR 1.7) come already rooted you don't need to flash superboot.

No, I believe he was saying using the install-recovery-windows.bat and reboot-recovery-windows.bat from the Superboot directory in LCR (NOT flashing the Superboot image, just extracting the directory as it is in the instructions for installing LCR)
