Guest maxonator Posted June 30, 2010 Report Posted June 30, 2010 Device: Samsung Omnia i910 Carrier: Pageplus (Verizon) Country / Language: USA - English OS / Browser : WM Pro 6.1 ROM: DC22 I bought a used Samsung Omnia i910 that had been previously used with Verizon wireless (post paid). When I got the phone it had the original ROM. Before I activated the phone or made any further mods, I used WIFI to download Google Maps (mobile). The first time I used the mobile Opera (9.5?) browser to visit www.google.com, it automatically suggested the download for Google Maps for mobile. I downloaded it, installed it, and gave it a try. Great! I was pleasantly surprised to see the speech search option which worked well. All this using WIFI as the phone had not been activated yet. I then updated the ROM for the i910 to the latest (DC22) official release download from Samsung. Supposedly the DC22 update unlocks the GPS so that it is unlocked, not limited to Verizon VZ navigator anymore. Then I activated the phone with Pageplus and ported my number over from Verizon Wireless prepaid. Did the *228 and updated the phone & roaming. After doing all the updates, I was disappointed to find that the SPEECH SEARCH function that was previously available in my Google Maps (both in opera & i.e mobile browsers) NO LONGER WAS AVAILABLE. I tried uninstalling the Google mobile apps and reinstalling them. Even tried hard resetting the phone and installing Google Maps for mobile again. Same thing. No speech search option available. I tried enabling GPS for both normal use and 911 only. The GPS was set to be automatically detected by Windows and I don't know if I should or how to set it manually. Neither made a difference. I can only guess that it has something to do with either switching over to Pageplus or the new ROM update has somehow affected the Speech Search. Either that, or I somehow got a different Google Maps mobile app on the first try that was a newer version. Has anyone else had this same experience? Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help.
Guest chopperthedog Posted June 30, 2010 Report Posted June 30, 2010 Do you get 3G with Pageplus? If not try turning phone off in wireless manager and turning wifi on Gmaps might be trying to default to 3G with phone on maybe. Gmaps 4.1.0 with DC22 on VZW everything works here. In gmaps gps settings choose COM port 8 and Baud rate of 57600. I get locks in less than a minute by not holding on to the device until it locks on to sats. good day.
Guest brandogg Posted July 1, 2010 Report Posted July 1, 2010 Wasn't working for me today either (or was at least very intermittent)- I think it's just a Google server issue. I'm on Verizon.
