I got Google Voiice, now I wish I hadn't. Once you get it, you can't get rid of it. The real problem is you can't check voice mails the traditional way anymore, and because of that, you can't get rid of the notifications. Anyone ot an idea?

Define traditional way? All you have to do is change your voice mail speed dial to your Google voice number. i have Google voice and have not had any problems.

traditional way by dialing your own phone number to access the voice mail. And yes, I have changed my speed dial to the Google Voice number, no I don't have a Google Voice phone number, I dial the 512-850-xxxx number and put in my password to access. But I still have voice mail reminders on the phone because the only way to clear them is through the Verizon voice mail system that is accessed by dialing your own phone number, and since that isn't done anymore, the phone won't clear the voice mail notice, so every time i turn on my phone, I get the reminder and see it on the top of my phone.

Not having a Google voice number might be difficult then. I know with mine i would just redirect the voice mail back to Verizon, delete the messages, and then direct it back to my Google voice account.

How do you redirect the voice mail back to Verizon? Maybe I can still do this. Is there a way to go online to My Verizon and delete voice mails?

Go to Google Voice in a browser

Click Settings at the top, then Voice Settings

The click "Deactivate Google voicemail on this phone"

Now I would still like to use the Google Voice, it is kinda nice to get text message transcripts of the messages. How can I use it without the headache of continually having to go in and deactivating my phone to delete the messages off the Verizon system. It would be nice if it were re-directed to a different system that bypassed Verizon so you could delete the messages from your Google account. Is this what happens when you get a Google number, and if so, how will it attach to my cell number, the only phone I have, so when people call I can use the service.

Once you remove the messages from Verizon voicemail, then activate voicemail for you phone in Google Voice, you shouldn't have to ever touch Verizon's voice mail system ever again.

If you pick a new number for Google Voice, you can still have it handle the voicemail for your existing number. In fact, this is what I do now. Just go into the settings and activate it for your phone.
