Guest chris1979 Posted July 2, 2010 Report Posted July 2, 2010 Morning, Just wondering if someone can help me. I am unfamiliar with the android system having come from a jailbroken iphone. Yesterday I managed to root my unbranded desire with the the tiny core method as I have had read that this was best and only have windows 7 x64 based systems in my household. Unfamiliar with the whole flashing rom process as I put my Defrost 1.6c custom rom with root manager. I have decided to go back to stock fror the moment as i`m becoming a bit paranoid that I won't be able to get there when the official 2.2 comes out and also with the few bugs that appear on the custom roms. Now the question is that I have the zip file for the stock 1.21 which someone pointed me towards on another site. Is the process easy and what process shall I use. I can boot in custom recovery with rom manager and then erase and update that way, is this the easiest? Also do i need to rename the zip to anything. Ihave read that you need to rename it update.zip on some guides or am I wrong about this? Any help appreciated and sorry for the noobie questions I have also tried searching but i get different guides and such and am a bit confused. cheers
Guest EddyOS Posted July 2, 2010 Report Posted July 2, 2010 Yes, just flash the ROM (or run the RUU if you've got that) and it should get you back to stock... Personally, I'd flash a 2.1-based ROM and then just run the full RUU file to be 100% sure it's done

I have had no experience in flashing roms with this method, is it easy? Also I have windows 64. I heard this was a problem sometimes. I have also read that I wouldn't be able to use the full RUU as for some reason my desire at the moment keeps going into USB debugging by default. Can;t seem to change this in settings and only have the option to mount. When I do mount and restrt the phone it just connects in debugging mode again. Would this cause a problem? Is using the full RUU similar to the method i used rooting device (I used tiny core) I presume flashing to 2.1 would enable HTC Sync? Edited July 2, 2010 by chris1979

Guest EddyOS Posted July 2, 2010 Report Posted July 2, 2010 (edited) The RUU files work fine in W7 x64 (I've got Ultimate and it worked fine) - so long as HTC Sync says it's connected it will work fine (some say it won't sync with a FroYo ROM but I've not tried) EDIT: Just checked mine Desire with HTC Sync - won't pick it up (as the option obviously isn't there!!). So using the ZIP is the quickest way but I'd still say flash an MCR r3.1 Sense-based ROM and just connect using HTC Sync and run the RUU as admin and you should be fine Edited July 2, 2010 by EddyOS

Can you possibly post a link to the MCRr3.1 sense. Just a bit paranoid about bricking. My pc cannot see phone in recovery state so don't think the full RUU will be an option for me with this rom. Anyone else having these problems? Edited July 2, 2010 by chris1979

See the sticky threads at the top of this forum (the MCR 3.1) OR just do the rooting process again and it will put the stock, rooted 1.15 ROM back on your device and then you can run the RUU And it can be fixed if it bricks now so nothing to worry about! Guest chris1979 Posted July 2, 2010 Report Posted July 2, 2010 ok, thanks for your time. When I return it to stock will I be able to update to update OTA to official 2.2 when it does come out?
Guest EddyOS Posted July 2, 2010 Report Posted July 2, 2010 (edited) Yes, as you're stock so it behaves as a stock device (quite straight forward really!!) Edited July 2, 2010 by EddyOS

Guest shotten99 Posted July 2, 2010 Report Posted July 2, 2010 cheers for all the help, much appreciated.. sorry to drop a late 2 cents in here- I don't have much more experience than you at this, and I was *REALLY* paranoid about rooting and loading mods, too I was also worried about getting a timely 2.2 upgrades and subsequent updates and damage to the phone, etc. Don't worry about any of that. Edy is right. Keep your phone rooted and use the 3.1 mod for now if you really like how your phone acts as stock. I'm going to use it until a comparable 2.2 mod becomes available with Sense UI. Think of it this way: in a year from now, HTC will show as much "timely support" for the Desire, Nexus One and Legend as they do the Hero today. 2.1 has been out a long while and the Hero is finally getting it officially. I'd bet that history will repeat itself, and the quickest way to update will be with mods like Paul's. Good luck!

I am really enjoying the froyo roms but there is still a few bugs in them which are bugging me a little. Also when official desire 2.2 comes out will the devs for these roms be able to sort these things out more easily? I have heard that desire in next update might be getting 720p recording, if/when it does will this be implemented in the custom roms?
