FROYO & Skype on 3 Mobile

Hi all,

Have just upgraded my Nexus One manually to Android 2.2 Froyo from Android 2.1 Éclair, Now I had previously downloaded the 3 Mobile Skype program file from here, it was called: skype_0.10.0.4_hutch_live, now on Android, 2.1 Éclair this installed and worked brilliantly, however after upgrading to Android 2.2 Froyo yesterday and reinstalling the 3 Skype program onto it, (which reinstalled perfectly), it refuses to log back in giving the message:

The Application Skype on 3

(process com.skype.android.threeUK)

has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.

it then forces me to close the application. I am very reliant on Skype as I have lots of Clients abroad and until this point I Skype on ~ Three Mobile has never had a probem and always worked perectly, however it now appears that it has conflict with Froyo, as other people on the internet are now experiencing the same problem, unless of course one of you chaps knows otherwise, (and I pray to god you do).

Anyway I hope that someone out there can help and resolve this issue without me having to write to the Gods on high at 3 Mobile asking them to fix it.

Kind Regards & Best Wishes ~ Ashe Medforth

Hey all,

Just a little update to where I am now, have just downloaded the latest Version of the software from XDA Developers, which is: 3UKSkype_0.10.0.12_hutch_live.apk, which was modified on quite recently on the 4th of July 2010, but obviously no enough to function on Froyo, as I still get the same error message:

The Application Skype on 3

(process com.skype.android.threeUK)

has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.

I have checked the error messages log from the DDMS and this is what they read if it helps anyone to solve this problem:

07-04 14:16:47.407: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(1555): FATAL EXCEPTION: Thread-22

07-04 14:16:47.407: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(1555): at com.skype.a.a.a.x.run(Unknown Source)

I know this is just a signing issue and would take very little modification to make it function, just need to tell the software that it is allowed and OK to function on Android 2.2 Froyo, I know there are lots of other people with the same issue, please is there anyone out there who can help, I really love this Three Funtion, and it really completes my Nexus One package.

Kind Regards Ashe.

Have you made any progress on this?

I guess there is nothing we can do except wait for Three to update the application.

I recently upgraded my Desire and have exactly the same problem.

Hi all,

Quoted below is the Reply that I got from David Kerrigan over @ 3 Mobile in case anyone is interested, it was a few weeks ago now but, kind of looks quite hopeful, please feel free to copy it elsware in the blog just so other XDA,ers now we know where we are at with the Apps update. As we no know that they officially released Froyo onto the HTC Desire, hopefully it should not be to much longer now, (Thank God, boy do I miss my, 3 mobile skype,)

XO, XO ~ Ashe

Hi Ashe

Glad to hear you're still enjoying Skype, and once again many thanks for all your support with our previous and current promotions, you guys over at IT Bloke as usual are total stars.

However, as Froyo is only just being released onto our devices, we have not yet updated and tested the app with Skype for 2.2 compatibility. We are of course working with Skype as we speak to make this happen as soon as is possible.

As ever, we would not recommend customers to upgrade their software to versions not tested by three if they wish to retain the applications we provide, however rest assured we should have this solved and re-released within a couple of weeks so sit tight chap, it won't be long

Best Wishes, Dave Kerrigan

Hey all,

Well lets hope so, the way I keep checking is by doing Google searches on the following you can cut and paste them and see what I mean;

3UKSkype_0.10.0.12_hutch_live

3UKSkype_0.10.0.14_hutch_live

I am currently on version 3UKSkype_0.10.0.14_hutch_live which still does not work with Froyo, I am assuming the the new version will be one of the following so it might be worth searching under these as well, but I could be wrong, so please correct me if I am:

3UKSkype_0.10.0.16_hutch_live

3UKSkype_0.10.0.18_hutch_live

3UKSkype_0.10.0.20_hutch_live

or even

3UKSkype_0.10.0.22_hutch_live

I really wish that Three Mobile ( 3 Mobile ) would pull there finger out with the one, as with Froyo and Three Skype I would have my perfect phone, if anyone has any further thoughts on the matter would love to here them,

Kind Regards and Best Wishes - Ashe

Hey Frank,

Thanks for the reply however, I know that 3 Mobile is currently working on getting their iSkoot skype client, working on Froyo, apparently it is a case of just telling it that it is OK to work on Froyo, this born testament by the fact that it still works OK with anyone who did not wipe there phones when they upgraded, I have spoken to David Kerrigan at Three Mobile again and apparently they are just testing the new version before they release it.

Froyo is to good to move backwards on, so I think that I will hang on for the few weeks until the new version is ready.

Kind Regards - Ashe.

Thanks for the update Frank, could not find anything on the web yet the problem is downloading the new version and extracting it, or someone not doing it to be precise, once the new file gets in the wild it will spread everywhere, really annoying though my wife has an X10 Mini pro on Three, which she loves and her skype works perfectly, we nornally used to use skype to talk, so we only put a little credit on every three months now is it costing us quite a few pounds, hoping it is available soon, David Kerrigan does check his twitter so if you tweet him the messages a put above that my spur him into action.

2. Move the cursor to Settings and press the Select button.

3. Move the cursor to Wireless & networks and press the Select button.

4. Move the cursor to Mobile network settings and press the Select button.

5. Move the cursor to Access Point Names and press the Select button.

6. Keep the cursor on 3 Services and press the Select button.

Configuration details

Name: 3 Services

APN: three.co.uk

Username: None

To set the Homepage follow the steps below.

1. From the Front Screen press the Main Menu button.

2. Move the cursor to Internet and press the Select button.

3. Press the Menu button.

4. Press the More button.

5. Move the cursor to Settings and press the Select button.

6. Keep the cursor on Set home page and press the Select button.
