Just found some new firmware on the Huawei website (updata.app files). I haven't downloaded them so I don't know if they're cupcake or eclair. I'm just dropping the links here in case anybody wants them.

Hey, Austria MOBILKOM and Austria MOBIKOM look interesting for me, I'll have a look at them :lol:

Edit: one has 99, the other 125 MBs.

I guess that are 1.5 and 2.1 ROMs.

Lol, (Austria MOBIKOM) and (White Russia Life) has the same

U8230 V100R001C157B820 ROM code.

Hmm seems like U8230 V100R001C100B820 (Austria MOBILKOM) can update U8220s also.

Edit: Actually both U8230 updates have the U8220 listed as upgradeable.

Isn't this what happened just before the official 2.1 update? Except instead of lots of 1.5 ROMs being pumped out its Eclair ROMs. Maybe Huawei are about to release 2.2 to Bobo, who shall irritate us because he won't release it, then T-Mobile make a terrible "enhancement" to the ROM with their "brilliant" canvas crap. All we're missing is a Pulse Mini - , the 2.2 phone (Or maybe Pulse +?)

I'll definitely load the Taiwan ROM. But I'm a little concerned that it is still 1.5. The build number is still in the 200's, not the 800's. Isn't that the way 1.5 and 2.1 are differentiated?

I've got to go to a meeting until noon. I'll check it out later today when I have a moment to load it.

Edit: I checked out the screen shots in the PDF guide and it is just a 1.5 update, not 2.1. :lol:

Edit2: Yes, confirmed after install that it is just a 1.5 update.

Are you using a 2.1 rom? If so you will need to downgrade and install your original rom before updating :)

Both Roms with Austria Mobilkom are 2.1 Roms... one is A1 Branded, the other (big one) RedBull branded...

If i want to root this 2.1 rom, what files i have to modify...? the default.prop but what other too?

Yesterday a tested it... then i flashed the update.zip and all was ok. But then the handset doesnt boot... it always hangs at the Mobilkom-Logo!

Any ideas?

OK... the root is done with ChainSD's superuser...!

Now i'm working on apps2sd+... what i've to edit in the bootimg for apps2sd+ ?

The other 3 are 2.1, but the C8600 will probably only be useful for that new phone.

Sure, but the 1.5 PCCW was almost clean, it only contained some PCCW TV and multimedia software. It will be interesting to see which kernel it uses.
