Guest leecasey Posted July 4, 2010 Report Posted July 4, 2010 (edited) Hi, I have a Nexus One with firmware EPF30. What is the easiest and safest way to get Froyo running on this device? I have read the stickys but just want to be certain as I don't wan to end up with a very expensive paper weight. Am I right in thinking I can simpy unlock the bootloader and flash any froyo build onto it? I have read the instructions on how to unlock the bootloader but still unsure how I would flash a ROM. I am totally new to all this so apologise if I have asked a simple question. Thanks in advance. Lee Edited July 4, 2010 by leecasey
Guest ranblv Posted July 4, 2010 Report Posted July 4, 2010 If you have an unrooted N1 why don't you just go to settings ---> about phone -->system updates and get the official froyo with zero risk? the unlocking methods are safe but not risk free.

(probably removing the tethering capability!). Thing is I'm not even using a Vodafone sim. Can I install a froyo rom without rooting and just by unlocking the bootloader?

Yes if you download the official FroYo release. You only need to root to install custom ROMs...but I highly recommend you do. You can root your phone without unlocking your bootloader so you can revert back and be covered under the warranty just in case you need it.

Ah I didn't know you could install the froyo rom without unlocking the bootloader. For anyone interested in getting FroYo on their EPF30 (vodafone) nexus one, I followed this tutorial, worked well for me. http://bloginblack.de/2010/07/how-to-upgra...to-froyo-today/

Hi leecasey I am a new Vodafraud UK customer who just got my lovely Nexus One (Build Number EPF21B) I still have not had an OTA update, but Vodafone said to me in store last Saturday when i got it that they (Vodafone) have nothing to do with the the SW upgrade it will be untouched because Google send it. Are you saying that that is not true? {because its not going to be available for a couple of week yet while vodafone "optimise" it} If that is so I seriously considering going back down to the store on Saturday morning to start demanding money back! NOT Having Vodafraud playing about with the OS is precisely why I chose Android, what you are saying is NOT what I signed up for at all! I have plenty of bitter past experience of Voda's appaling SW engineering skills! and want nothing to do with Android on Vodafone if its going to be messed up yet again by Vodafraud. So I ask you do you genuinely know that Vodafone are 100% playing with the OS as I was told categorically in store that they ware not?

I just found this on the Vodafraud websire dated 3 days ago Android 2.2 and Nexus One on Vodafone Customers who have purchased the Nexus One from Vodafone will receive the latest Android update, 2.2 or Froyo as it's otherwise known. We're just waiting for Google to release our version of software for approval and will make this available to our customers as soon as possible. I really do not like the sound of this at all, it is clear Vodafone WILL be interfering
