keeps asking for a google account???

so i recently did an update to v2.1 update #1.

i'm trying to upload some pics from the HTC DESIRE to my picasa web album.

so i go into pics, share, choose picasa, then choose a few pics and hit next.

i briefly, as in a millisecond, see the right screen but then up comes a ADD A GOOGLE ACCOUNT screen.

i do this, ie, put in my account name and password and up comes a SYNC screen with only two options, sync all and remove account.

even if i hit SYNC ALL, i get booted back to the photo album screen with and the fun starts all over again.

the process worked before the update and now its not. any ideas?

i have a google account already registered on my phone so not sure why its asking me again.

i need this to work NOW as i'm leaving on a 6 week trip with the hopes of uploading pics to my picasa web album for a live blog.

PLEASE HELP :)
