8gb or 16gb model?

From reading the specs and the main rooting/hacking thread here, it appears the internal memory (8gb or 16gb) is essentially an internally installed sdcard. Is that correct?

That means in terms of hacking for custom roms and the like, there's no advantage to the 16gb over the 8gb model, correct? The nand, RAM, and ROM are always going to be restricted to the 512mb RAM and 2gb ROM limits, correct?

(EDIT: further reading I see the ROM is actually just a reserved chunk of the internal sdcard's 8/16gb, correct?)

I'd normally just go for the larger internal memory device on something like this, but I've already got a couple of Class 6 micro-sdcards laying around that I can use for music and the like, and I've never filled them up on my Android phones in the past.

If the internal sdcard has potential for addressing things like the annoying "internal storage full" problem I keep getting with apps on my Nexus One, I'm in for the larger device, otherwise, I'm thinking just to save a few dollars and go for the 8gb.

Is there any reason I'm missing that would make the 16gb advantageous over the 8gb?

Thanks for any input.

unless you are type of person who like to fill up the memory with loads of HD movies, and MP3, most probably not. 8gb is pretty insufficient these days for me. on the other hand 32 is too large, 16 is just nice. But it's always nice to have more space :)

I couldn't find enough stuff to fill my 32gb iPhone's up, but found 16gb limiting until I switched to the Nexus One. Now I'm not even filling my 16gb sdcard. With that in mind, sounds like the sdcard I add would be plenty along with whatever's left over from the internal storage.
