Guest robot1000 Posted July 6, 2010 Report Posted July 6, 2010 (edited) Do any of you have any experience of the Samsung Galaxy Portal (spica) i5700 as I've been offered the following great deal from T-mobile? Samsung Galaxy Portal 100 mins 100 txts Unlimited Internet Free bolt on (unlimited txts or Landline minutes) All for £7.50pm for 24 months (Total £180) Edited July 6, 2010 by robot1000
Guest meinnit Posted July 6, 2010 Report Posted July 6, 2010 Traitor! (No idea about the original question :))
Guest robot1000 Posted July 6, 2010 Report Posted July 6, 2010 Traitor! (No idea about the original question :)) lol As I'm nearing the end of my contract anyway (o2), this looks like a quite enticing deal. Plus the fact that unlimited internet (3gb) seems the best internet deal out there. I have to decide whether to keep the Samsung or sell it on and just use the contract with my existing pulse

However if you can afford to spend more per month then do so and get the likes of the nexus one / desire / galaxy S. There is a reason these phones are going cheap :D

Guest aidanj Posted July 6, 2010 Report Posted July 6, 2010 i posted the following on hukd, as the deal was shown on there: i logged in just to post. i myself am an owner of the t-mobile pulse, and, on the whole, it's great. my sister owns the galaxy spicca/i5700, and i really don't like it. my main issue with the samsung is that i find the touchscreen to be so clunky, it's not even funny. the phone is forever hitting the wrong keys - it really oes my head in. my pulse, on the other hand, is an absolute dream to use - the keyboard is as responsive as can be, and hits all of the right keys for me - a pleasure to use. also, both the samsung and the pulse both have a 3.2 mp autofocus camera. the samsung takes better shots, but, at night time, it lags like nobody's business. samsung have always been bad in this regard, but the i5700 takes the cake. when taking a picture at night, moving the phone around will blur terribly, AS WELL as slowing the camera itself down - it takes forever to catch up, despite having a processor that's 272 mhz faster than the pulse. next, when taking a picture with the i5700, you have to tap to focus, and then release the focus, and press the camera button again to take the picture. on my pulse, it's half press the hardware button or on-screen 'ball', fully press, and the picture's taken. t-mobile are taking forever to update the i5700 from the stock android 1.5 (might be 1.6, can't remember) to the recent 2.1 version. other countries have it already, and have done for a while. the same is true of the pulse, BUT, the pulse has a far superior (imo) modding community than the i5700, with custom roms aplenty, if that's your 'thing'. lastly, it's amazing - the pulse has 192 mb ram - 105 mb of which is available, yet you NEVER get any more than around 26 mb free. manufacturer huawei really need to sort that out - but my pulse still does everything as fast as my sister's i5700. as for the lg - it seems fine from reviews, by lg don't seem to have much support for it, and i haven't seen a modding community to speak of. the touchscreen is said to be very responsive by way of finger and stylus input, so that's a plus over the awful samsung. without a doubt, i'd urge anyone reading this to get the pulse, consider the lg, and avoid the i5700 at all costs. samsung just can't seem to get the hardware and software right for their touchscreen phones - be they capacitive or resistive.

Does Samsung handle multitasking? I've found a modding community here for the Samsung and it does seem quite active Edited July 6, 2010 by robot1000
Guest Azurren Posted July 6, 2010 Report Posted July 6, 2010 Does Samsung handle multitasking? I've found a modding community here for the Samsung and it does seem quite active Yeah I just found that one just now :D With the extra ram yes, it can multi task 200%+ Better than the pulse :)
Guest skrattinn Posted July 6, 2010 Report Posted July 6, 2010 I have I5700 and i love it so much:) It has Android 2.1 and 130 mb free :) It is very quick and never problem with reboots or similar problems So its thumbs up for i5700
Guest robot1000 Posted July 6, 2010 Report Posted July 6, 2010 So the next questions going to be: Anyone wanna buy my pulse? lol

Guest Speckles Posted July 6, 2010 Report Posted July 6, 2010 I've played with one, but I really don't like it. Too many plasticky fiddly buttons, and it was still Android 1.5 (May have been upgraded now?) Ended up on the same deal with the Pulse, which I sold, unopened, for £130 to a bloke at work, and then used my PAYG Pulse :) £50 for 24 months of 100 texts/100 mins/unlimited landline calls/3GB internet - Bargain!
Guest Azurren Posted July 6, 2010 Report Posted July 6, 2010 Just ordered one of these for my mum.. 29 left in stock now :D It may turn out to be "to complicated" for her and she may have to use my already set-up, ready to go pulse :) I'm counting on it

Guest gusthy Posted July 6, 2010 Report Posted July 6, 2010 Which one is better, always depend on usage. I have time to wait 2 or 3 seconds, but Spica screen is too small for me. So it is not an exact question...

So it is not an exact question... 0.3 inches smaller.. If you can see a difference, well.. Yeah :) HTC Hero is widely considered a better phone than the pulse, can you guess the screen size?
Guest gusthy Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 (edited) 0.3 inches smaller.. If you can see a difference, well.. Yeah :) HTC Hero is widely considered a better phone than the pulse, can you guess the screen size? you know, I also have a G1 so I know what I am speaking of. The screen size depends of the square of the screen diameter, so the pulse screen is 3.5^2/3.2^2 times bigger. It is around 20%, it is relevant difference when browsing or reading ebooks. Guest phildrip Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 My wife has a i5700, and I'm always jealous of the speed of the thing compared to my Pulse. The battery life on the Samsung seems hugely better, too.
Guest robot1000 Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 It's just arrived! Anyone know of any way of transferring everything from the pulse to the samsung?
Guest Azurren Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 It's just arrived! Anyone know of any way of transferring everything from the pulse to the samsung? Swap the micro SD card, log into the market, downloads then download everything in the list before closing it (As it will reset to what is downloaded on the Samsung)
Guest Azurren Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 Just ordered one of these for my mum.. 29 left in stock now :P It may turn out to be "to complicated" for her and she may have to use my already set-up, ready to go pulse :D I'm counting on it I failed miserably :) Although I have had problems when setting up the Spica: Can't seem to download external apk's (Just says the package is malformed or something) Can't download any email attachments Bluetooth is dreadful (Only works when it feels like it) But.. (Big but) the speed is amazingly fast. No waiting, you can multitask, you press a button and the menu opens instantly (Instead of having to wait a second) Screensize is smaller but the resolution looks far better. Imo I think I prefer the smaller screen
