hey guys, lol this is my first post :)

My dad had a t-mobile pulse for like a month, so it is in prestige condition but he stopped using it because when he turned it on it froze on the android startup screen, me being me i asked him if i fix it can i have it? he said yes. :D so immediately i went to the t-mobile shop and got it sent off for repairs, it should be here working fine and basically brand new in a week, i've been trying to do some research about the phone and i found out that there's something called "rooting" and when its rooted you can install roms and you can pimp your phone with metamorph etc. i have a very limited knowledge on this especially as this is my first android phone so can you guys please help me by completely noobifiying step by step guides on the following topics:

- how to root my t-mobile pulse (huawei u8220)

- what is the best rom to install? (2.1, 1.5) etc..

- how to install metamorph

and i have an 8gb memory card so

- how to install apps2sd

i will be so grateful if you guys could take out the time to explain in utter noobotitty these things here

thank you so much for your time

AnDroidNooB :P

If you want to upgrade to 2.1 the drivers are included (Or should be included) with the official 2.1 download :D

If you ask round here which is the best ROM to use you will get as many different replies as there are ROMS. :)

Your first choice is whether to stick with the 1.5 that comes with the phone or go straight to 2.1. The older one (1.5) is generally more stable as it has had all the testing. The 2.1 ROMS you'll find around here are getting much better, but there are still bugs and you will get the occasional reboot.

Personally I have been using flibblesans FLB-Mod V5.1 since it was released and its the best I've tried. I get a reboot or freeze every 2 or 3 days if I'm using the phone a lot, but I'm happy to put up with that in order to get all the juicy goodness that comes with 2.1. :D

When you decide which ROM you want to use you should find there are pretty good instructions on what to do. Just take it step by step and read the instructions very carefully and you should be OK. If it does go badly wrong there's lots of great people round here who should be able to help.

FLB-MOD stands for Faster, Lighter, Better :)

The biggest difference between those ROMs is that the FLB-MOD ROM is the fastest and most stable one :D

I also have it installed on my device :P

Edit: actually you even could have fixed your Pulse at home, that shouldn't have made much trouble.

Best regards,

BigBear

thanks Big Bear. so im gonna try and get a 2.1 FLB MOD on my pulse. oh an i did try and see if i could fix my phone myself, but it looked like rocket science to me.. also i didn't have the CD so my computer wasn't recognizing my phone, also because it kept on freezing at the android startup screen i couldn't get into the phone and find out much about it.. so i just thought i might as well take it to a specialist.

If that happens again in future, there's a very simple but somehow rude way to get your phone working again, and this works always:

Download the original 2.1 or 1.5 ROM (HU, TRE or Dec), store it on your SD card (using e.g. a Card reader) under the folder /dload, turn off your phone, hold PWR + Red (End) Key + VOL Up and it will install the stock ROM again.

After that your phone will be fully working again (in 99% of the cases).

Basically there's no difference than speed between this ROMs.

The FLB-MOD is just fast :)

Its the only one I tried to be honest :D

In my opinion its just the best looking ROM, its fast, stable, and I really like the UI.

It uses ADW Launcher instead of canvas, or the stock Android launcher.

And it has great support.

Currently he's working on a newer version, and believe me, the FLB-MOD will become big :P

Thanks AnDroidNooB, I feel like you've asked questions I wanted to ask.

Hope you've got nothing against me chipping in. I'm a noob as well, got my Pulse couple of days ago, flashed what I think is a flb rom.

My question is: how do I know what I've got? Which rom? I followed instructions, got Hungarian 2.1 and then I think I did flb one, but can't be sure.

Also, how can I change that analoque clock on the home screen to the 'flip up' one, please? You know, the one made of couple of squarish digits that flip up or down when changing.

Again, AnDroidNooB, please tell me off and I'll start a new topic, I just thought it would follow up nicely on your questions.

I don't think it's a problem. It's nice to have a topic where people can ask basic questions, keeps it tidy :)

Do you mean this clock:

or this one:
