Ok guys, I hope you dont mind helping me with my lovely new Pulse as I fear I have done a few things wrong and I tend to panic about things like this.

First of all, I D/L'd 2.1 upgrade the other day and it installed fine. My problem is my laptop will now not recognise the Pulse when the USB is connected, how is this so when I succesfully D/L'd the 2.1 upgrade? The reason I want to know is because I want to put some music on my phone and install custom ROM (when I try to d/l nandroid at the boot up screen nothing happens the blue screen just doesnt change at all).

Secondly, after I did the 2.1 upgrade correctly, I was looking through my Pulse & went to settings>SDcard & phone storage>software upgrade>SD card upgrade and saw that I could upgrade my SDcard there... I upgraded it here and now I am worried I shouldnt have done this because my pulse wallpapers have changed back to pre 2.1 ones.. but when I go into 'about phone' it still says the firmware is 2.1 update. so why have my wallpapers changed?

I am sorry if this is a block of text, my work computer doesnt seem to paragraph what I am writing at all. Any help/answers/confirmations would be greatly appreciated.

First, welcome to the forum :)

Assuming you come from Android 1.5, you'll have to install the newer drivers (as Dr Who already mentioned :P ).

You can't restore your backup in fastboot mode (that's the mode where you only see a blue screen).

Well, you could, but that requires a bit more knowledge than you seem to have yet - and no, that's not meant offending in any way :P

To install a custom ROM you'll first have to flash the amon-ra custom recovery image.

Instructions here.

From there you can restore nandroid backups and flash new ROMs.

Regarding the "SD Card upgrade" you misunderstood something:

This function upgrades your phone firmware with an UPDATA.APP file that's stored on your SD card under the /dload folder, just like you upgraded to the 2.1 ROM.

This actually has nothing to do with your SD Card :D

Best regards,

BigBear

Thanks for the replies guys and thanks for the welcome :P

Yes i followed all of the instructions on that link Bigbear, but when I put the Pulse in fastboot and click on the windows BT (for maon-ra) as instucted on my laptop nothintg happens on my pulse although it definately does something cuz a little black screen appears on my laptop... Im thinking nothing is happening because my laptop isnt recognising my Pulse/drivers and when i have tried in Windows to DL the drivers the computer cannot recognise/find them and it asks me to put in the Tmobile startup disk(which i did but it still failed because its the old 1.5 ver).

Secondly regarding the SD card upgrade - should i have done this then? Where has my black carbon wallpaper gone its turned into a tranquill lake! ( and i went into wallpapers and it isnt there :D ) Im just paranoid iv done something wrong.

To install the newer drivers you'll first have to uninstall the older ones.

After that the new drivers should install fine :P

Basically with the SD Card upgrade you just flashed the 2.1 ROM again.

You wallpaper should be reset to the factory one, but unless you saved another UPDATA.APP in the /dload folder of your SD Card you should still be able to choose your previous one :)

Did you maybe download and save your wallpaper on the phone?

Because the SD Card upgrade deletes everything that's on your phone.

I am assuming you are using a Windows PC to connect to your phone? If so the drivers change after upgrading to 2.1

I have no idea about the other problem though.

To add onto my previous message, which drivers should i use for windows basic vista dr who?

thanks in advance :)

One more question I promise and then I will attempt everything to install drivers and custom rom tonight.. how do i uninstall the older drivers?

BTW... Thanks for being patient with a newbie, I dont think iv had such quick answers on another forum and i appreciate these are probably basic things you get bored of telling all newbies! I have a great first impression on the forum. :)

To install the new drivers I simply plugged in my Pulse, went to Device Manager, identified four devices with exclamation marks next to them on then on each one in turn right clicked and selected update driver - in the options choose to select the driver yourself, navigate to the unzipped driver folder and it should run through the driver install. If this doesn't work you could always go into the properties in Device Manager and uninstall the driver or delete the device in Device Manger - it should then run through the process of asking you to install the driver the next time you connect.

Nah don't worry, everyone starts as a noob :)

I don't exactly know how to uninstall drivers in Windows XP, I haven't used it for ages :P

Basically I think you have to uninstall them through the device manager.

Edit: well, seems like Dr Who was faster :D
