Desire Sleep = WiFi unresponsive (2.2, r21)

Hi guys. I know r21 was never made for Desire. It's a Nexus ROM so obviously there will be problems. My videos and YouTube app show the green stuff on the video and discoloration is quite severe. But that's acceptable to me. I was 2.2 r21 and I tried to go back to 2.1 and had no issues on 2.1 r3. The problem is, I got so used to 2.2 being ridiculously fast compared to 2.1.

The problem I really need a fix for is this: WiFi. My phone is connected to the WiFi access point but no data is being transmitted when the screen is off. I have already checked the setting in Wireless Networks where you set the sleep policy to never. I don't have any battery savings apps. Is there anything else I can try to make WiFi work with the screen off? I don't get any emails or notifications until the screen comes back on.

I have an unbranded and unlocked Desire with r21 Froyo. I did a full wipe before upgrading to 2.2. I flashed back to 2.1 and the problem was gone, then I wiped and flashed 2.2 and the problem comes up again.

I would appreciate any help at all. Thanks a lot in advance.

Just a note: I did search the forum but the other people were getting disconnected from the network. My desire is still connected but no data is flowing through.

Ok here's the messed up part. I got a constant ping going to my Desire, which was responding back but as soon as screen turned off, the ping started to time-out. Any suggestions besides going back to r3 and 2.1? I love 2.2 and the stock experience. This WiFi issue is my only problem.

EDIT: I tried pinging Desire when it was on 3G but that's all good even though screen is off. WiFi is the only issue.

I dont remember this ever being a problem. I did feel it was odd that I received all notifications in the morning as soon as my phone screen was on. Usually they would already be waiting for me. But now I realise, there's no connection in the background. WiFi does not get disconnected when the screen is off. This means that 3G can't kick in either so basically the phone has no data going in or out when the screen is off.

I've had this problem for ages on various froyo releases. It's appearence has varied slightly but I think it's the same bug. Very frustrating, it doesn't get any attention so I don't know if it's isolated to just a few of us or what. Hopefully official froyo for desire will help fix it (for non official releases too).

Guys. I went back to r3 and when the screen is off, Desire is still responding to the ping. r21, it doesn't respond to ping when the screen is off.

howlep, it's great that you're not having this problem. when you flashed r21, did you omit any inclusions? maybe some included app is doing this? I'm gonna try flashing r21 without the wifi status indicator thing included and see if it makes any difference.

Ok. This problem is definitely not present in r3. I flashed r21 with no wifi status indicator, I didn't even login to my Google account so no new apps were installed either. Full wipe before flash as well so no apps on ext3. I did not login to my WaveSecure account either. I flashed, enabled WiFi and connected to my access point, set sleep policy to Never. Ping.

Ping ok when screen on, ping timing out when screen off.

It's definitely not a device problem. Is there anything I can do to fix this issue? The fact that howlep is not having this issue probably means that Paul or other mods don't even know that this issue exists. Under known issues for r21, Paul put none. I have 3 definite issues.

1 is the green bar on top of all videos and YouTube as well.

2 is the notification light doesn't go off.

3 is this WiFi issue.

I can ignore the first 2, but I can't do anything about #3? I would go back to r3 but its so slow in comparison. :)

But howlep is not having this issue on r21 Froyo. That makes me believe that it's something he's doing or something I'm not doing that is causing this.

Here's another thing I noticed. When I was on r3, I copied the new r21 I baked (75mb) and it was copying at 9.5mbps. I have a class 6 card. I'm on r21 now and when I copied a newer r21 (no additions at all, 65mb) it was copying at 2mbps.

Isn't that odd?

I know this ROM was never made for Desire but this is the last thing I'm gonna test. r21 with nothing included but A2SD+. Only Google applications (no Car Home, no voice dialer, no voice search). If it doesn't work I hope Paul or another mod puts this is as known issue for r21.

Good bye r21. No WiFi when screen off is a deal-breaker. I have nothing else installed, definitely not a problem with my wifi router. So, bye to r21, back to r3.

Jaystomped, that's usually the first thing I disable whenever I flash a new ROM. I always set WiFi Sleep Policy as never. I said it in the first post - 'I have already checked the setting in Wireless Networks where you set the sleep policy to never.'

Haha. I have given up. I've tried everything that I know. That's why I was asking for answers here. Been searching Google but most the people either had faulty devices or faulty routers/access points. My Desire's wifi is normal on r3. Only on r19, r20, r21 its not connecting to WiFi when screen is off. It wont respond to pings when screen is off.

Same problem, appears to be a problem with the rom as Nexus One users are also have the problems.... Yet whenever i mention it... not one ever responds or acknowledge the issue.

Its nice to know im not the only one :)

Froyo+Sense Leak will be here soon, so I'll give that a wirl and see if the problem still exists :D
