Problem with ActiveSync and Cradle

Well i got on my computer today and i started it up and there was a message saying it could not connect with activesync and that i have to go through the "get connected" thing to see which ports are open. It said 2 ports were open. So i took my phone off the cradle and put it back on and it is just not seeing that my phone is there wat shall i do i just reinstalled activesync and i do not want to do a hard reset cause i have stuff on my phone and it will be deleted

Thanks ash i will let you know if it works. Mayb there is something with my usb ports thank you very much
