update help phone not responding

hi got tmobile pulse with van 1.7 on just loaded the 2,1 update onto my card ,booted the phone got the updating message and then nothing,just the phone locked screen,when i flick the yellow dot up it does nothing,just stops on the locked screen,removed battery and it is still the same locked,tried starting with the 3 buttons to do the upgrade but no updating message comes up please help

thanks for reply i got as far as

1 put the dload onto my sd card

2 booted the phone holding down the three buttons

3 came up with the message to update

4 the phone booted as normal then without any update

5 the lock screen will not unlock by flicking the yellow dot up on screen as the screen is locked

6 i still get the usb beep when i plug the usb lead in though

7 tried rebooting holding the three buttons but i dont get the update message now the phone just boots to the lock screen

There is no yellow dot on Android 2.1 update, so you are doing something wrong (I assume you didn't updated at all)

So...chill a little and read the post Azuren linked to you and go step buy step again

just found out the roller ball still works but the touch screen doesnt is there any way to reinstall a different rom without having to hold the three buttons at start up please

thats the problem the phone didnt update and pressing the 3 buttons at start up does nothing,the phone boots as normal and the touch screen doesnt work

Go to Settings/SD card & phone storage and select Upgrade at the bottom.
