Guest astuermer Posted July 6, 2010 Report Posted July 6, 2010 Hi there I'm familiar with WindowsMobile since many years, but now I want to by a affordable Android device - I decided to buy an Acer Liquid S100. Is there an official Update to 2.1 available so far? Expansys writes on it's pages "it is available". But if not... what do I have to do, to get some custom ROMs up there on the Liquid?! Thank you very much! Andi
Guest Ayur Posted July 6, 2010 Report Posted July 6, 2010 Is there an official Update to 2.1 available so far? Expansys writes on it's pages "it is available". Not yet - but there are rumours that it will be released in this week. But if not... what do I have to do, to get some custom ROMs up there on the Liquid?! You can find a how-to at the LCR-google-code page (or a german howto at android-hilfe.de)
Guest jayziac Posted July 6, 2010 Report Posted July 6, 2010 No official 2.1 from Acer yet, but unofficial and stable leaked 2.1 ROMs can be easily found. (I've been running Eclair 2.1 1.100.05_EMEA for a while now).
Guest astuermer Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 You can find a how-to at the LCR-google-code page (or a german howto at android-hilfe.de) Thank you! :) Any chance to brick the phone with an update? - except pulling the cable during the update :D The howto on google-code sounds not that hard. Is the phone rooted then?
Guest HustlinDaily Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 (edited) Once you install the Custom Recovery Image, you can go into recovery and root it through recovery or flash LCR. Both ways would root the device. I personally recommend LCR because of the fact that it is really clean plus incorporates Acer's Stream UI (nice features include native DiVix/XVid and Dolby Mobile equalizer) and regular Android UI (completely configurable). Plus I find it fast and stable. As far as bricking it, as long as the phone stays on during the flashing process (no matter what happens, even if the USB connection drops, make sure the phone stays on), your device should be okay. Guest astuermer Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 So what about battery life? I read some reviews reporting poor battery life on the Liquid (which seems to be under Androdi 1.6). Hows battery life with Eclair 2.1? I make phonecalls for 30 mins a day, perhaps 1 hr of mailing/internet and 15-20 sms. Sometimes a little bit gaming - lets say 30 mins a day gaming. Can I expect at least a full day of charge or even more?
Guest astuermer Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 What, if I only want to have Android 2.1 without Root access? http://code.google.com/p/acer-liquid-commu...uidCommunityROM Your current liquid android version is 1.6 (not 2.1)¶ 1) Unpack the drivers. If you have a 32-Bit version of Windows, go to the folder x86, if you have a 64-Bit version, go to the x64 folder. Then run the setup.exe and follow the instructions. 2) Unpack the Acer A1 Tool. important : under windows Vista / 7 : choose Windows XP compatibility mode and "run as administrator" Run the ACER Download Tool. Click "Browse" and select the downloaded ACER_LiquidE...bin. Attach your Acer Liquid and press Start. It should start flashing the stock Éclair image. Don't interrupt this process!! In case of communication error during flash process. You can unplug and replug usb, don't power off the phone. Or is it necessary to make the other steps too?
Guest G_Technik Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 For clear 2.1 it's enough. Just use a short USB-cable and USB port on motherboard without extension and hubs.

Thanks for the info :) So the stock Liquid "E" Rom is compatible with the standard Liquid? Can I root my Liquid with the 2.1 ROM afterwards or isn't that possible then?

Guest HustlinDaily Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 And yes you can root or unroot at any time.
Guest astuermer Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 And yes you can root or unroot at any time. Hmm, so why doesn't ACER release the Liquid E Rom also as Liquid (without E) Rom?! The hardware seems to be the same - except double the RAM.
Guest astuermer Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 (edited) E stands for Éclair. I know. But isn't the hacked ROM the one from the Eclair one? Because it's titled "Acer_LiquidE_1.100.05_EMEA_GEN1" Or is this the "leaked" one from the standard Liquid? Edited July 8, 2010 by astuermer
Guest HustlinDaily Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 That rom is an Acer leak provided to us by LIQUID_USER. Acer has yet to officially release 2.1. I think the same firmware are going to be used for both. There have people here who have sent their phones in for warranty repair and have them returned with 1.000.05EMEA installed.

Sent in a standard Liquid and repaircenter sent back a flashed Liquid with Android 2.1 ? :)
Guest jayziac Posted July 9, 2010 Report Posted July 9, 2010 Acer may not have released official update for Liquid A1 yet for a number of reasons such as marketing wanting people to spend money buying a new Liquid E. Or internal testing to make sure the update goes smoothly for existing customers. The Liquid E for carriers like Rogers may have been rushed out to meet their deadlines since it still has a few bugs remaining.
