Guest ranblv Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 Nexus One with Android 2.2 (FroYo) outperforms iPhone 4: http://johnhaller.com/jh/useful_stuff/nexu...forms_iphone_4/ Very cool to read :-)
Guest slaguru Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 Nexus One with Android 2.2 (FroYo) outperforms iPhone 4: http://johnhaller.com/jh/useful_stuff/nexu...forms_iphone_4/ Very cool to read :-) Have to say that my N1 is fast on 2.2, but I don't feel a real world speed increase against my iPhone 4. I think sometimes stats can be a bit off the mark. In daily use, the iPhone tends to save time on the speed of its controls and interface, compared to Froyo. Just an opinion, don't shoot me.
Guest ranblv Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 on the other hand, you can leave applications running in real multi tasking form and keep getting feeds, something you can't do on your iPhone4, which translates to faster access time when you turn to them for updates...
Guest Stevos Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 Those benchmark are not representative of app performance, or relevant to issues like multitasking etc - it's purely a benchmark of how javascript web apps perform in the default browser. Apple have some catching up to do there (especially as the iPad is supposed to be the best way to browse the web and it's being outrun in that task by a smartphone), but it says nothing about how android apps perform vs iOS apps.
Guest woozyking Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 Honestly those two test results are only browser-wise, or more specifically JavaScript-wise and website rendering-wise App-wise and processor-wise, I'm not 100% sure. What I'm sure about is iPhone beats Nexus One in graphical processing (3D games etc.) btw: I don't have an iPhone, so I can be wrong
Guest cezent Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 (edited) I use both N1 and iPhone4, they are quite different experience. iPhone 4 is easy to use and good to look at. It's more of a well designed phone and less dependent on internet in my opinion. the new iOS4 is rather well constructed and very sleak. for daily use, its difficult to say iPhone is slow in anyway, and the battery life is brilliant. However, the multi-tasking is a disgrace, and the stupid signal problem when holding the phone on my left hand side drives me nuts sometimes. And also, the control from apple means all the google services are run from browser rather than local app, and also the stupid email system cant push gmail real time. those are the pains iphone 4 users have to live with. Nexus One is a much more powerful device. Froyo is as good as a full OS that's capable of almost anything u want to achieve on a computing device. However, it also comes with some shortcomings a powerful OS would have, i.e. occasional glitch in speed and app responsiveness. Nevertheless, N1 with Froyo is as fun as it can get for anyone who s keen on custom ROM or 3rd party dev modification, and all the benefit comes with google services are unmatchable, however it also means Nexus One's practicality are reduced massively when internet is not accessible (i.e. when I m roaming overseas). I m using my iPhone 4 primary as a company phone, and N1 as my personal phone. my iPhone 4 will stay unjailbroken and N1 on MCR, as they are meant to be. Edited July 7, 2010 by cezent

I agree, one other thing that bugs on the N1 is the crappy cut and paste implementation, I do hope google fixes it soon.
Guest P00rSpy Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 Nice thread and info, I do not have an Iphone, but there's definitely some good stuff there! I also dislike the cut and paste implementation as well as the sideways browsing since almost two third of the screen is lost to toolbar or way to big box frame... I think the Iphone win there too.

If you use launcher replacements like ADW or Launcher pro 0.66 you can chose to hide the status bar and gain the space back, and call it when pressing on the menu button.

I don't see what's so well constructed about it. It's just different at best and limited in options and archaic at worst. If you're talking about physical build quality, well the antenna issues, screen discoloration issues, white constellation like dots on screens, reversed volume buttons and numerous people shattering the back of their phones....well there's definitely quality issues there. Yes it's sleek, but so is the Nexus One which feels very nice and is quite sexy too. Which looks better is user preference, the iPhone 4 is just new and hasn't been out for months. There are so many iPhone 3G/S users who's phones have slowed down tremendously with iOS4 and who have their features limited because Apple just wants to. Now that's the pain iPhone users have to live with :) I agree, one other thing that bugs on the N1 is the crappy cut and paste implementation, I do hope google fixes it soon. Yeah the iPhone's cut and paste method is pretty decent, but I like the SenseUI method the most. Either way, the normal Android method works well enough...just use the trackball. If you use launcher replacements like ADW or Launcher pro 0.66 you can chose to hide the status bar and gain the space back, and call it when pressing on the menu button. I have my status bar hidden in ADW Launcher and bring it back just by swiping down. And that's the beauty of Android, we can do the same thing in our preferred way.

I m just saying its a sleeker user experience compare to Nexus One in my view. There are huge pains with iPhone4 from time to time, like those u mentioned, and also whenever I need to use anything internet based it drives me nuts. But N1+Froyo has its own pain too, the issue with touch screen going wacko is still not resolved after 7months, which is really annoying when I m trying to type a message and the keyboard going all over the place and sent out some rubbish in the process, not to mention the system memory + text msg full error after Adobe Flash comes onboard..Android as it is cant make it as a corporate mobile device, but iPhone can (a blessing in disguise from Apple's closeness I guess) The bottom line is, the better iPhone Apple builds, the better the next Android handset will be. And no one should have to hate Apple to love Android, that's just stupid.
