Hi all, just got myself an I9000 yesteday evening and was very happy about it. Soon... i started to be a bit worried. I dont know for sure, but i think it was originally bought from India. i tried to update the phone using Odin with the I9000XWJG1 fw, but i didnt succeed. Some strange things happen though, and i hope you can people help me sort things out ok.

First weird thing : when i type *#1234# i get nothing, just a black screen.

next weird stuff, here is what i get at the about screen :

Model number : sec_aries

Firmware version : 2.1-update1

Baseband version : J9000XXJC3b

Kernel version : 2.6.29 umts_scm@s2-servant03 #2

Build number : ERE27

The third strange thing : i tried to do the reset thingie : VOL UP + HOME + Power button. It doesnt work.

I tried to use Odin to flash newer fw. I do all the necessary steps, i connect the phone, windows sees it, installs the drivers ok ( 2 drivers) , then i start the update. After a while it reboots and i get the messages :

<ID:0/004> Added!!

<ID:0/004> Odin v.3 engine (ID:4)..

<ID:0/004> File analysis..

<ID:0/004> Removed!!

<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)

Any help would be appreciated, i really want to flash newer fw, since mine acts pretty much as people complained on the forums :)

Thanks in advance.

well, i wanted to enter recovery. didn't work at start but when i tried using adb reboot recovery, device restarted and i got a screen where there probably should have been an animation with samsung i9000 and stuff that is like not working. its just a stuck image.

is there any way to reflash this ?

To flash the firmware you need to use Vol-down+home+power... You should go into downloader mode in which you should see a yellow logo with an android and a shovel.

Checkout the video I posted in youtube to see if you're doing the same thing.

i did just like in the videos. doesn't work. will try on some friend's system tomorrow, i have p55 chipset and there are still usb problems from what i've read.

managed to put in in recovery mode, but i cannot move through options using vol up and vol down keys . this is getting me pissed of a bit :).

is there any way to flash a new recovery image using adb? if it is, is anyone kind to tell me how and where i can find the recovery image? i searched a lot but didnt find anything so far...

The COM port matters. I had problems initially, so I just kept moving the USB port I was using, eventually found one which Just Worked . Took all of 5 seconds to start flashing after that.

Before that though it looked bricked with the weird phone and PC and warning icon.

I think I have the same problem. Are you saying that the phone booted with this icon and then froze but by connecting via correct usb port the problem was resolved?
