ROM Manager and Paul ROM

Hi Guys,

I have a question? Although I have had success with rooting and flashing roms I can't say I fully understand the process yet.

I have an HTC Desire which I have rooted and flashed to the modded sense UI ROM from Paul (I think). I have purchased and used ROM Manager (although I am not convinced of its value.)

Please correct me if I'm wrong but I can boot into the recovery without ROM Manager after rooting, and I can flash a custom ROM using the recovery method. Again without ROm Manager.

The ROM that I have taken from Modaco (Pauls) is not supported for OTA updates in ROM Manager; says it is not supported.

So I don't really see the point in the ROM Manager, unless I'm missing something. Would be great to use it to check for updated ROMs?

My questions are probably systematic of my complete inexperience of doing the process several times, but I hope someone can set me straight?

Cheers

as long as you got clockwork update.zip on the root of your sdcard, which you will specially if you already installed clockwork rom manager and downloaded the current recovery with it, you can turn off your Desire, and power on with volume down, choose recovery with the volume keys, then power button, then the triangle appears press volume up and power then use the volume key to select Apply sdcard:update.zip from the blue recovery menu. There may be a quicker way of doing this but if there is and anyone who knows of it, please share. :) - teach me to read the post properly before i reply, why do i get the feeling its going to be a long day lol sorry for wasting your time.

It makes updating clockworkmod easy, and I almost always use it to reboot straight into recovery for me. Those two features alone make it worth an install imo.

I think I see a bit better. So I used the clockworkmod as the 'recovery' mod and the ROM Manager keeps that element of the process uptodate i.e. just the recovery ROM.

So presumably each time the clockworkmod gets updated ROM manger will replace the update.zip on the root of the SD Card for me?

So it is really just a shame that pauls r3.1 mod is not added to the list of auto updated ROMs, because I could then have a very easy auto update type experience with the custom ROMs?
