Guest solongmarriane Posted July 10, 2010 Report Posted July 10, 2010 Can anyone recommend a good UK deal for a 8 or 16GB SD card for the pulse. I don't mind paying a few quid to get something decent.

Try Play.com 8GB for a tenner: http://www.play.com/Mobiles/Mobile/4-/5973...rd/Product.html 16GBs aren't much more expensive
Guest Narsil Posted July 11, 2010 Report Posted July 11, 2010 Can anyone recommend a good UK deal for a 8 or 16GB SD card for the pulse. I don't mind paying a few quid to get something decent. I was looking for a new card yesterday and the one thing I noticed was that class 6 16Gb cards are over double the cost of the equivalent 8Gb cards eg at Amazon a typical 8Gb class 6 card is £14 or so, the 16Gb versions are typically £40-£50, so unless you really need that amount of space go for speed over storage space. I don't know much about different brands though, and in the end I plumped for this for £19.50 Kingmax 8Gb Class 10 Micro SDHC card at Amazon Obviously I haven't received it yet so can't recommend it. Also, if you havent already got one, I'd suggest buying an adaptor so you can use the old card as a storage device for something else. I got a MicroSD to SD adapter so I can use it in my digital camera.

That play.com branded card is an 8gb class 4 for £11. The cheapest play.com branded 16gb card is £27 and is only a class 2.

I thought that Class scaled with size :) My 4gb card is a class 6 (Play branded) never thought that it would be lower than that Edited July 11, 2010 by Azurren

Guest Narsil Posted July 11, 2010 Report Posted July 11, 2010 I thought that Class scaled with size :) My 4gb card is a class 6 (Play branded) never thought that it would be lower than that Easy mistake to make, I would have assumed the same, but lurking on here and looking at apps2sd and moving dalvik cache-type stuff where read/write speeds are important made me look into it more. A lot of cheaper card product descriptions don't even tell you what class they are so now I just assume they're class 2.
Guest Narsil Posted July 11, 2010 Report Posted July 11, 2010 I'm using this in my G1 http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronic...-6/Product.html That looks a good card and is actually now £16.50, very good build quality. Waterproof, shockproof and all that. I actually considered this one but given it would be permanently living in my phone, If I accidently went swimming with my phone in my pocket, the SD card would be the least of my worries. I came down to a final 3 of: Transcend 8gb class 6 + SD adapter - £14 Amazon - cheapest and comes with an SD adapter Samsung 8gb class 6 - £16.50 both Amazon and Play.com - most sturdy Kingmax 8gb class 10 - £19.50 Amazon - fastest Ended up paying the extra for the kingmax and buying a microsd to sd adapter off ebay for 99p.

What am I looking at here? 1 year? :) Honestly the Branded vs unbranded lark is as old as the inventions themselves. True, some unbranded things are awful! But with most branded stuff you are just paying extortionate prices just for the name (iPhone and Apple for example) Use common sense, but don't think the most expensive is always the best. (The more expensive Branded Trainers are still made in the same factories, same conditions, same material as the lesser)
Guest solongmarriane Posted July 11, 2010 Report Posted July 11, 2010 Thanks everyone. Great information. I'll have a look at the choices tomorrow. Back to the football and a beer ot two now. :)
Guest Alcarne Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 I'm using this in my G1 http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronic...-6/Product.html True but pulse users will need the micro sd here
Guest meinnit Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 Is there a considerable speed difference between 4 and 6 using the Pulse? I'm only really looking at getting a 2GB or 4GB card
Guest meinnit Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 (edited) What do people think of these 2: Samsung 4GB Micro SDHC PLUS High Speed memory card Class 6 £9.49 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-Micro-Spee.../dp/B002WGIV0G/ Transcend 4GB Micro SDHC Class 6 Memory Card £6.97 (after 24% voucher) http://www.zoombits.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=17868 Edited July 12, 2010 by meinnit
Guest meinnit Posted July 13, 2010 Report Posted July 13, 2010 Went for Transcend in the end. If 20% cashback pays it will only have cost £5.58 :)
