Had an Orange branded desire which I rooted with the noriskroot but I had to get a code for the simlock. It's working now on 1.15.405.4 but asking me to upgrade to 1.21.405.2.

Would I keep root if I update or is there a rooted version to download?

Have only had my desire a couple of days, it was never this confusing on the hero. :)

Thanks.

You should not go with the ota update when you are rooted as your wifi will stop working(reported by others not own experience) If you want a decent (android 2.1) 1.21.405.2 rom with root and no issues, i would prefer "mcr r3.1" by paul. It works perfect, and you can just dl one of the prebakes in the link below, and you can also have it with a2sd+ which i personally prefer :) good luck.

Agreed, the MCR Roms tend to be the most stable for day to day use, however if you want something cutting edge and are prepared to lose Sense, go for Cyanogen Mod.

If you get prompted to install an OTA, don't do it. It will ruin your root.
