Guest SEI87 Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 (edited) Make sure the battery cover is snug for random turn off isue. Have no experience of no service issue. looked at the cover it seems snug but i noticed 1 bump on either side where the 2 small peices of black foam tape are. anyone else see this look at the phone closely theres a small bulge where the tape is. edit: my build number is 3562 can i update? Guest shEEEsh Posted July 13, 2010 Report Posted July 13, 2010 anyone else has this problem? it randomly turns off at least once a day. also it randomly goes to no service at times but only for a few seconds I am also going to say check the battery cover. when it is closed push up on it and you might notice the cover move up some. I was having the same problem. Battery cover was just barely loose.
Guest AuirR Posted July 13, 2010 Report Posted July 13, 2010 edit: my build number is 3562 can i update? (us streak) I don't think you will get a update for beta test.
Guest shEEEsh Posted July 13, 2010 Report Posted July 13, 2010 I think that is IMPOSSIBLE .. why would Dell do something like that ?? Give a gift that becomes obsolete ?? PLUS. I don't consider them beta test phones really. They were presents given in a charity race. Dell would look like garbage if they did something like that to 1,000 people. We will see but I would bet money on it that updates will work. There is no reason they wouldn't. Unless I am really REALLY wrong about the give away. On the other hand. Dell knew that some component in one of their laptops - or desktop - was defective. They won't do anything but deny it is the problem.
Guest AuirR Posted July 13, 2010 Report Posted July 13, 2010 Got it! I thought it's just a test, not give away. :)
Guest shEEEsh Posted July 13, 2010 Report Posted July 13, 2010 No problem. I guess it could be called a "test" too .. being they wanted to winners to use it for a month and write a review or something. And if Dell would use a thousand people as lab rats and call it a "door prize" letting the prize go bad in a month .. then the company is rotten to the core. The winners were athletes and such. Bike racers ... It was some sort of bike race for charity. Those people aren't gadget nuts .. there is no place to put this phone in those spandex shorts !!! haha Diane
Guest yosemite-sam Posted July 13, 2010 Report Posted July 13, 2010 i dont think its about the update but could be, i only say this cos i had it happen twice. once before and once after updating, i hit power button to find it powered off even tho it had half full battery. when i took off the cover i noticed the battery was warm so think its his fault! Im good with putting the back on snug so its never come loose so i ruled that out plus which end i unplug from after charging. All ive done since it happened was not keep topping it back up to 100% when low and just letting it run flat. its been ok so far this way and havent felt the battery heat up again. im still blaming the battery tho cos it shouldnt get warm like that and switch off so theres some shananigans goin on.
Guest SEI87 Posted July 13, 2010 Report Posted July 13, 2010 hmm.. my battery is always quite warm aswell but i thought it was normal for android phones. my milestone makes my palms sweat like mad when i play with it for too long.. also.. the first time i charged the phone it said something like battery too hot turning off device. but only happened that one time.

Guest shEEEsh Posted July 13, 2010 Report Posted July 13, 2010 Someone posted on XDA that they had the same problem. They uninstalled the "task manager" and that fixed the problem.

Guest mobiholic Posted July 13, 2010 Report Posted July 13, 2010 (edited) Hope it works for you, let us know how you get on. EDIT: I should add I never saw this problem with the two Streaks I owned, though I only had each for a week. Edited July 13, 2010 by mobiholic
Guest SEI87 Posted July 13, 2010 Report Posted July 13, 2010 guys could you look at your battery cover where the volume buttons are, is the cover sticking up a bit due to the foam? and also on the opposite side left of the charging port
Guest Asphytxtc Posted July 14, 2010 Report Posted July 14, 2010 yeah, my cover is bulging a little bit exactly where you specified.. I always thought maybe I just bent it a little when first putting it on (damm that thing took a lot of pressure to push in place!!) but looking again, you're right, its that little bit of foam causing it to stick up.. whats its purpose?
Guest AuirR Posted July 15, 2010 Report Posted July 15, 2010 (edited) Someone posted on XDA that they had the same problem. They uninstalled the "task manager" and that fixed the problem. It seems task killers/managers are not reliable on Streak. They are needed to customize to Streak  Edited July 15, 2010 by AuirR
Guest Dogmann55 Posted July 15, 2010 Report Posted July 15, 2010 @yosemite-same I would say you really don't want to keep running your battery to flat as Li-ion Polymer batteries don't like this and it's really not good for them in fact you will decrease it's performance and kill it's life cycle faster this way as they can be recharged from any point without damaging them except for running them flat which does them no good at all. @all No foam sticking up by my volume buttons or anywhere else for that matter it fits snugly and flush all the way round it i have never used a Task Killer on my Streak in the 5 weeks I've had it and never had any messages to say I'm low on memory or slow downs and usually after 16hrs use i have any where from 28%-48% battery left. I would think if the battery is really warm and not lasting very long it sounds like a rogue app is doing that and from what I've read it seems using auto Task killers are usually the main culprit for this type of behaviour defeating what most use them for. Guest unfitguy Posted July 15, 2010 Report Posted July 15, 2010 Happing to my streak too No Taskmanagers installed and cover fits perfectly, happened on 2 occasions in last 4 days
Guest clickspace Posted July 18, 2010 Report Posted July 18, 2010 Mine has now started doing it every few hours. It even turned off during a phone call. I have noticed that a message pops up and says "Powering down device" (or something similar) before it goes.
Guest dude1966 Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 (edited) My streak also turned itself off ...just once now. I think the foam is to add extra friction, so the cover doesn't come off easy. It does bend to cover way to much. Edited July 19, 2010 by dude1966
Guest clickspace Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 ...They uninstalled the "task manager" and that fixed the problem. I figured out what went wrong on mine, thank you shEEEsh. Right before it decided to switch off all the time I set all of the android/dell applications to never close (exclude) with the task manager I use. Things like the Wiper App, PVMtpServiceStart, PVWmdrmService, ContactMerge and AlbumArtDownload. Seems to have fixed it. And I can still use my task manager.
Guest craigdabbs Posted July 25, 2010 Report Posted July 25, 2010 seems mine has started turning off instantly at the slightest knock or twisting (eg in pocket) after having it for over a month. It will even do it while its booting up so its not software related in anyway. Kind of dissapointed now :(
