just run the time machine updata then copy over the december update by tmobile (if you have a pulse) then go into fastboot and flash a custom recovery and flash the custom rom zip

They got a tutorial under the ultimate guide for tmobile pulse

Ok thanks this forum is a bit of a mess at the moment with too much information i know its out there but its nice to ask.

I honestly think that this issue with the text messages is the reason t-mobile have not released 2.1 in the uk.

T-Mobile haven't released 2.1 in the UK because it leaves the phone with a very small amount of free storage space.

The SMS issue is a weird one. I've never missed a text from anybody.

I've been searching for some answers on this issue. Whilst I've not found any solution it is interesting to note that users of other Android devices have reported issues like this also.

I've read many from G1 users and Hero users. Interestingly the Pulse and G1 have the same amount of memory but the Hero has 96mb more.

Could the issue really be down to memory usage? It is well known that Android 2.1 uses a lot more memory that 1.5. This is exactly what I suspect and is why I'm currently testing some memory optimisation tweaks on the phone.

It's unfortunate that Android 2.1 won't ever be 100% perfect on our phones. It's even more unfortunate that it's preventing users like yourself from using the phone as intended.

Strange really, I did the same thing. I was installing and running BigBear's original 2.1 beta ROMs which basically rebooted every couple of hours. I then used various other post Hungary update ROMs. I know the rebooting was fixed, but the delays in opening up the launcher and problems with RAM forced me back to Android 1.5 (MCR 1.8 Update).

I probably will try 2.1 again, but for the most, the 1.5 version is satisfyingly stable and pretty much does most things I require. Fortunately, I don't need Google Navigation or some of the newer Google 1.6+ apps.

Weirdly, I do think since coming back to 1.5, my battery life seems a lot better than it did when it was originally on 1.5.

Have either of you tried the Swedish Tre 2.1 ROM? I have never had a single problem with it - I haven't tried other 2.1 ROMs but those that have seem to report the Tre version is the most stable, and AFAIK the SMS bug has not been reported on it.

I am still on FLB beta 3 rom and never had any issues of missing/delayed SMS on Tmobile UK. I even received it when roaming internationally. So I guess it is only affecting some pulse users.

If you follow a few guide lines 2.1 works really well...here at least.

So far I always got all sms that were sent to me( T-Mobile Germany).

It does have enough space for a moderate amount of apps...all I really need anyway.

...and If you leave enough space it doesn't become slower.

Tried that...If I always leave more than 40mb free its stays fast and reliable for days and days, without the need of a reboot.

At the moment I have 20 apps installed and and with a little cleaning and the cache cleaner,I still have 49.61mb free on the phone.

Also the battery last for 1-2 days, maybe even a little more, depending on what I'm doing with the phone.

Probably cause I always and immediately turn everything off, that I don't need.

For example,as soon as I'm done with the market,I turn off "Background data".

Auto sync is turned off all the time,so is gps and all mobile networks settings(when I'm at home).

Even at home I only switch wlan on,when I really need it and turn it off after I'm done with whatever I wanted to do.

I basically turn off everything that you can turn off and only turn it on when it is really needed.

The only problems I had so far were(I think) when I used to many screens and widgets and had to many apps installed...then it became really, really slow after only a few hours.

Btw using Paul's latest here, slightly modified.

Has it to do with the MMS app or with android?

After having android phone for a little while and having other "normal" and "smart" phones for a longer while before, I realized one thing - the "smart" phones are called "smart" because they are more of computer then a phone. All smartphones have various problems with phone-functionality, so, if you need a phone, get yourself some nokia or siemens or anything else with more phone features and less smart features, but if ou are going to use more smart features, you have to consider that phone functionality on those devices are poor. Well, maybe the best business solution is to get normal phone and ipod in addition or palm pilot (dont know if those are still on market) Besides, if both of your devices will have bluetooth you maybe able to do calls from your palm via phone in your pocket. In fact this solution may be even cheaper in some cases.

This may sound a bit silly... but how do the people who say they have got all their text messages know that they have got ALL their text messages

This issue is what is stopping me putting 2.1 on my phone, in a couple of months when I've had it a year I will seriously think about changing to another android phone, hopefully one with 2.2 on it from the start !

I can't speak for others but as a ROM builder I do an awful lot of testing on my phone and almost always reading the logs. Unless the messaging service has died and cannot restart, all SMS will be received by the phone. And if the phone is, for some reason, unable to receive a message then most operators will simply queue the message for resending.

I have an online account with O2 which allows me to send SMS and I use this to test the receiving and sending of SMS a lot.

I've had one SMS issue with my Pulse and 2.1, when it was having a minor memory wobble. A message flashed up saying that a SMS couldn't be downloaded due to lack of memory, and I never received it again when things cleared up. Apart from that it seems fine to me (5.1 beta for now).

My wife has the HTC Desire, and her messenging does strange things too. Mainly sending messages several times. Maybe it isn't just a Pulse issue.

A mate of mine has the same thing with an HTC phone (couldn't tell you off the top of my head which type it is) but it frequently sends other people, including me, multiple texts.

Heh, a friends G1 sends me 2 of every message.. I think he said it has something to do with 3g switching to H and back again when sending the message.. He has no idea and neither do I

Good question... I know that I'm back on December update from 2.1 because of this issue. Got Pulse for wife, but she had around 50% of all incoming SMS's undelivered, and on other phones no problem.

I tested it like crazy asking same people to send and resend messages, but there definitly is sometnihg wrong with SMS service on phone:

- sometimes name is not matched with addressed book

- sometimes it dispalys wrong name (ex. premimum t-mobile messages 8xxx get shown as random user from address book)

- message from "new" contact doesn't get delivered (if with that users there was no previous texting)

- mesages in thred (SMSing back.forth) get missing

I really didn't find ANY pattern there.
