having dug around a bit I can't actually see that much in there that's unusual hardware wise.

I wonder if a stock kernel would work..

Obviously the panel/touchscreen is different

Don't go on anything that Dell Support says, that 3-4 weeks is obviously some sort of guess just so they had something to say to you.
